Southern Districts jumped to the competition top of the table following a four-point win over PINT in a feisty, gut-wrenching match played at TIO Stadium.
In a low scoring but nonetheless entertaining game the Crocs ran out 8.7 (55) to 7.9 (51) victors.
The game went down to the wire with the Greenants deep in attack when the final siren sounded, and the gallant PINT performance wasn’t lost on the relieved Districts skipper Dean Staunton.
“Credit to PINT – personally, I would have to say that was the toughest game we’ve played all season,” said Staunton.
“But also credit to our boys because they were all over us in that third quarter and we just dug deep, and I think that was a huge win for our footy club.
“Our back line was superb again tonight and it was up to our mids and forwards in that last to lift because we were two players down and were all pretty tired.
“To be on top of the ladder is a credit to our footy club – we’ve put in a lot of hard work and Rusca (Coach Shannon Rusca) leaves no stone unturned in our preparation.”
Districts small forward Luke Smith opened the scoring with a measured goal from left half forward after two minutes of play.
PINT then slipped into gear and although they spent plenty of time in their half, the defence of Brodie Lake and Michael Bowden kept the Ants goalless for the term. Matt Ryan, Brodie Carter and Thomas Schott denied Districts the ball and the tricolours also struggled to create more scoreboard pressure.
A bomb from outside 50m by PINT big man Kyle Winter-Irving squared the ledger at the six-minute mark of the second term but Districts skipper Dean Staunton kicked truly from 45m out to give his side back the six-point lead.
Although a careless Districts defensive error allowed PINT forward Leigh Peters in for a goal, Smith’s second for the game from a long way out and majors from Sam Dunstan and the running Jack Mentha put the Crocs 12-points ahead at the long break.
PINT opened the third with a lift in aggression and were immediately rewarded with goals to Winter-Irving and McMahon. Districts were faltering under PINT defensive pressure and when Chris Nield found space, he put his team seven points in front at the last break.
Matt Shannon got the Crocs back in the game with a goal early in the last and then Mentha and Cameron Ellis-Yolmen also got into the act.

LIVESTREAM PREVIEW
Expect a big match when an in-form Southern Districts play off against a fired-up PINT outfit at TIO Stadium.
And the NT News will be there to livestream the game exclusively for you from 7pm, Saturday.
Southern Districts have been one of the form sides of the 2022-23 NTFL season, beating some of the league’s toughest in Nightcliff and Waratah.
However, did not get the result they were after last time they ventured to TIO Stadium.
Matt Dennis, Matt Shannon and Luke Smith are all players to look out for in this encounter after proving themselves among the league’s best in the opening rounds.
They face PINT who have enjoyed a decent start to their first ever season in the NTFL Premier League winning both their home games against St Mary’s and Wanderers.
They fell at the end to Darwin Buffaloes crumbling to their foe’s intensity, but were still in the fight right the way through.
If they show the same bite once again they could put the pressure on the Crocs.
If you are attempting to cast the livestream or replay to a television, the best result can be achieved by either using a laptop/computer or a mobile phone.
The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to livestream Men’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
