NTFL 2022-23: Watch Palmerston Magpies vs Waratah Round 18 livestream

Waratah sent a statement ahead of finals with a big win over a youthful Palmerston outfit. WATCH THE REPLAY.

NTFL Round 18 Palmerston v Waratah

While five goals from Waratah whiz Jayden Magro was the icing on the cake as his team overpowered Palmerston by 74 points at Cazalys Arena, he fell short of the tally required to take out the competition goal kicking silverware.

Needing seven to overtake Jackson Calder, and despite three final term majors, Magro’s teammates and horde of fans at the game were aware he didn’t quite achieve the personal milestone.

Tahs skipper Brodie Carroll said after the game that at three quarter time, all players knew the equation for Magro to take the award and while they tried to isolate him, it was not to be.

“We knew the situation at the break and tried to get the ball to him but it didn’t work to plan and he fell one or two short but that’s the game we play’” Carroll said.

It was not all early doom and gloom for the Magpies and at the first break scores were level with key forwards Michael Langton (two goals) and Adam Parry (goal) playing strongly.

But once play resumed it was obvious the Waratah defence tightened their grip and Palmy’s response was to chip short looking for an opening which didn’t present and a measly two additional points in the next three quarters was the result.

A shining light for the home team was Ryan Warfe who was charged with providing a hard tag on Magro and the plan worked until he was overwhelmed late in the final term by swarms of red and white players attempting to pick out the goal kicker.

But it was Waratah who deserve all the accolades and their defence led by Daniel O’Dwyer, James Arratta, Jack O’Sullivan and former captain Nicholas Gooch was water tight.

The running brigade headed by Robert Turnbull, Scott Carlin, Jake McCreery and Marcus Wattie feasted on the work of big men Arnold Kirby and Mitchell Jorgensen.

The skipper was comfortable with the result and believes his side is better prepared for this finals tilt.

“Palmy started pretty well but we persevered and got the result and with finals next week, we were pretty happy with how things went,” added Carroll.

“For us to go a long way in the finals our back six need to be up to the mark and today they were outstanding.

“We were also really happy for Jake McCreery – it’s a sad story because he got injured in round one and later had another setback, but he is getting back to full fitness and that will give headaches for the selectors going forward with finals next week.

“Last year I don’t think anyone had played in a decider before and now we know what it is about, so we now have the experience and with this stable group, hopefully we go one better this time.”

LIVESTREAM PREVIEW

A youthful Palmerston outfit will play host to a strong Waratah unit on the hunt for vengeance in the final round of the NTFL home and away season.

And the NT News will be there to livestream every minute of the game exclusively for you from 6.30pm, Saturday.

It’s been an up and down few months for the Magpies, but they will take some pride in getting to play host for their final match of the season.

And despite losing some of their best over the course of the year they are a side brimming with young talent ready to make the step up to Premier League level.

Veterans Ashton Hams, Josiah Farrer and Eric Guthrie have also been in strong form of late, and will be hoping to make a dent in their last match.

Waratah however pose a massive challenge for the Cazalys Arena team and will be tough to get past.

Tahs are on the hunt for revenge after dropping their Round 17 face-off against St Mary’s by just a single point.

If you are attempting to cast the livestream or replay to a television, the best result can be achieved by either using a laptop/computer or a mobile phone.

The NT News and AFL Northern Territory have come together in a partnership to livestream Men’s Premier League games for this TIO NTFL season.
