THE brightest stars of Australian cricket’s next generation will be competing for BBL contracts in the Northern Territory’s Strike League T20 competition.
And headlining the league will be the squads of Big Bash clubs the Melbourne Renegades and Melbourne Stars, both set to feature a mix of regular stars and academy prospects, with every game streamed live exclusively on ntnews.com.au.
The T20 tournament, which is a key component of the inaugural Cricket365 program, will take place from August 15-27 at DXC Arena and will see the Renegades and Stars take on the City Cyclones, Desert Blaze, Northern Tide and Southern Storm.
The inclusion of academy teams from each of the Big Bash clubs will see the 2021 Cricket365 program end with a bang, with two weeks of non-stop T20 action to take place under lights at DXC Arena.
Teams will play five matches in eight days with the top three teams advancing to the finals.
NT Cricket chief executive Joel Morrison said the addition of the BBL sides was a huge boost to the Cricket365 program. “With Australia’s best young players taking part in Cricket365 the quality of cricket was already elite but the Renegades and Stars will take things to another level,” Morrison said.
“The ability to play elite cricket year-round in Australia is a competitive advantage for our game and the inclusion of two Big Bash academy teams further reinforces the importance of our winter program.”
The Stars side will feature current BBL players Nathan Coulter-Nile, Nick Larkin, Tom O’Connell and Clint Hinchcliffe alongside academy player James Seymour, who is no stranger to the Darwin scene. The Renegades will also boast some of their own stars, including BBL 2008 title winners Mackenzie Harvey and Cameron Boyce along with Jake Fraser-McGurk, Josh Lalor and Zak Evans.

Cricket Victoria high performance manager Dean Russ called the series a great opportunity to take a look at and test some of the best emerging talent in the country.
“We’re delighted to bring together some of the best Victorian premier cricket talent and provide an opportunity for them to play and train in a competitive tournament,” Russ said. “Coaching staff will get a first-hand look at some of the best premier cricketers and equally the players will get the opportunity to show their skills against accomplished first-class players.”
