THE 2021 Deadly Cup is back on and back in line with NAIDOC week following a short period of uncertainty due to recent Covid restrictions.

The Cup will return on July 18 and promises to come back with a bang as it caps off what promises to be an exciting NAIDOC week.

Players from all grades will play with pride as they celebrate culture through the game of rugby league.

While exhibitors and sponsors will also grab the chance to promote healthy practices in community.

The NRL NT and the clubs all threw their support behind the revised dates with players and supporters alike eager to see the celebration of culture through rugby league proceed.

In adjustment the A-grade, reserve grade and women’s round 11 games scheduled to be played on the 17th have been moved to a day earlier allowing players a day’s break before the Cup.

Deadly Enterprises director Shaun Tatipata said it was exciting to have the Deadly Cup aligned with NAIDOC week with upwards of 3000 attendees still the aim. “We’re relieved but mostly excited that it’s back. It was disappointing that we had to postpone, for the right reasons, but everyone got around us,” Tatipata said. “We had huge support from the NRL NT and the clubs who all supported the new date and supported that we wanted to be in line with NAIDOC week.

“To be able to hold it on the 18th despite everything is incredible and a lot of that is down to how well we handled and got through the Covid situation.

“But it’s great that we’re still able to celebrate community while also being able to educate and promote health which is particularly important in these times.”

Invitational sides ADF Indigenous All Stars and the Australian Army All Stars were originally invited but due to Covid concerns had to cancel but have confirmed their interest in the 2022 edition.
