A Darwin school has gone into ‘code yellow’ with children under constant surveillance, after reports that a woman allegedly threatened students outside the facility.
It is understood that an adult woman has allegedly been repeatedly threatening students at the school this week, including breaking a window on Wednesday.
Malak Re-engagement Centre (MRC) has increased its security protocols following a serious incident this week.
In a message to parents and guardians on Friday the Malak Re-engagement Centre said the campus had gone into “code yellow lockdown”.
“Meaning that students will be supervised at all times and will not be able to leave school grounds,” it said.
MRC said a planned excursion to the Botanic gardens had to be cancelled, with an “alternative program” on offer for Friday.
“This has been done to ensure the safety of students, while we work with police in response to an incident yesterday after school,” it said.
MRC is a flexible learning centre for teenagers aged 12 to 17 who are disconnected from mainstream education, helping them either get back to school, in training or at a job.
NT Police confirmed they received a report on Wednesday about a “disturbance” at Malak Pl.
“Police attended the scene and no complaint was forthcoming,” a spokesman said.
The Education Department has been contacted for comment.
