A pregnant young woman who allegedly videoed a bloody midnight murder attempt in Adelaide’s south had been hired by the alleged victim as a topless waiter just days before the attack, a court has heard.
Nitika Peacock, 21, of Christie Downs, fronted the Supreme Court on Thursday during a last-ditch bail application – where Justice Rachael Gray heard she was working for an “adult entertainment business” when she was called to the Morphett Vale address of 27-year-old Jared Hocking about 4am on March 27.
There, the court heard Ms Peacock “talked for an hour” with Mr Hocking, before returning home – to the annoyance of her partner and co-accused Bowen Gregory Milne, 22 of Port Noarlunga.
Joanne Liptak, for Ms Peacock, told Justice Gray Mr Milne “knew of” Mr Hocking – and he had been told the two “did more than just talk”, which Ms Peacock vehemently denied.
“I didn’t do what they were saying,” the court heard she texted to Mr Milne.
“It’s apparent Mr Milne had an issue,” Ms Liptak said.
The next day, Ms Peacock allegedly received another message from Mr Hocking and texted Mr Milne to say “that guy’s calling me again”.
That same day, the court heard she resigned from her job with her adult entertainment business – telling her boss she “can’t work there anymore”.
At 11.42pm, Ms Peacock was picked up by Mr Milne and allegedly told they going to go “get drinks” along with Joshua Allan House, 27, of Christie Downs, and his girlfriend – both of whom Ms Peacock had never met before.
A court has previously heard the car arrived at Mr Hocking’s property just after midnight.
On Thursday, Ms Liptak alleged Ms Peacock – who was still wearing the pink dressing gown she left home with – was forced to knock on the front door.
“She was made to go to the front door to get Mr Hocking to come out and apologise to Mr Milne,” Ms Liptak said.
“She had no intention to do anything to Mr Hocking.”
Prosecutors previously alleged, after he approached the door, Mr Hocking was chased through the hallway of his home by Mr House and Mr Milne – who were armed with a knife, crowbar and machete.
Ms Peacock, 21, allegedly filmed the ordeal on her phone. She is yet to enter any pleas to aggravated serious criminal trespass and attempted murder.
Emergency services rushed to the property about 12.45am and found Mr Hocking needing urgent medical care after suffering a perforated lung from stab wounds.
Upon Ms Peacock’s arrest, police seized her phone and allegedly found text messages between the group.
It’s alleged Mr Milne and Mr House discussed “getting” Mr Hocking, and sent a message saying “we’re going in now”.
Mr House was arrested about 4am on Friday morning after police received a tip off he was hiding inside a Morphett Vale home. They are both in custody on remand.
He and Mr Milne are yet to enter any pleas to aggravated serious criminal trespass and attempted murder, while Mr Milne is also charges with aggravated cause harm with intent.
The fourth person is not facing charges.
On Thursday, the court heard – while in custody on remand – Ms Peacock had found out she was eight weeks pregnant.
Justice Gray adjourned the matter to next week and remanded Ms Peacock in custody.
