Debra Dennert was known as “the life and soul of the street”.

Now her family and Lynore Ave, Para Hills residents are left grappling with her shock death in a freak accident in her own driveway.

It is believed Ms Dennert – a grandmother affectionately known as Debbie to many – lost control of her Toyota Kluger in the carport before becoming crushed around 8pm on Thursday night.

Emergency services rushed to her Lynore Ave home, but their extensive efforts were in vain as she died on scene.

Her husband of 40 years, Trevor Dennert posted on social media a touching tribute.

“At a total loss last night,” he wrote. “The love of my life and loving wife Debbie grew her wings. Don’t know how I will cope with this but for her memory I need to be strong.

“So sorry for our 3 children, their partners and our grandchildren.

“Thanks so much to our lovely neighbours for being there with her until the end.

“RIP my beautiful wife.”

South West Road Transport Wall of Legends also extended their condolences to the heartbroken family following the loss of “an absolute gem”.

“Debbie’s smile and support for the industry never went unnoticed here,” they wrote.

“May the love you shared be your strength during this difficult time Trev.”

Meanwhile, neighbour Kevin Clarke, 83, told The Advertiser he heard a “scrunching sound” and the “sound of furniture falling” when the car crashed, then a voice calling for help, which prompted him to run outside.

Mr Clarke immediately saw Ms Dennert, 60, had been in an “ugly crash”.

“The car was on the wrong angle in the carport and against the inside wall,” he said.

“Debbie was in the car with the driver’s door half open and she was hanging out and jammed … and there were a lot of things that had become dislodged from shelves and stuff as a result of the crash.”

Mr Clarke and others who ran to offer help tried to clear out the fallen items while the ambulance made their way to the distressed woman.

Mr Clarke said he made sure to keep talking to Ms Dennert, telling her “we’re here” and “keep holding on”.

However, Ms Dennert died at the scene.

Ms Clarke said the whole street would grieve her death.

“Debbie was the life and soul of this street,” he said.

“She invited everyone over to her house on Christmas and my wife and her exchanged countless plants and potted flowers over the years.

“She’s also gives us bags of mandarins and plums. That was the sort of woman she was – friendly and generous.”

Mr Clarke said he believed Ms Dennert was by herself at home at the time as her husband, Trevor, regularly travels to Olympic Dam for work.

Major Crash investigators attended the scene to determine the cause of the crash.

According to police, there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death and it will not be included on the lives lost toll.
