NT Police on Wednesday announced they had arrested a young man in relation to the alleged incident.

On Thursday morning, Mr Tukumba faced Darwin Local Court charged with careless driving resulting in death, recklessly endangering serious harm, driving without consent, driving while unlicensed, and reckless driving.

Mr Tukumba’s lawyer told the court their client would “not be seeking bail today” and further charges were expected to be laid.

Judge Tanya Fong Lim adjourned the matter to August 14.

At the site where the deceased man was found, an industrial building had a large hole next to the roller door, with a nearby red 4WD bearing significant damage across its windscreen and front.

The 4WD was towed from the scene, along with an orange quad bike and small boat.

All vehicles belonged to the deceased man, police said.

On Wednesday, Detective Acting Senior Sergeant Ashley Dudson told media that detectives were continuing to investigate just how the building had been damaged.

“We are looking at the mechanisms of how that car came to be in this location at the property,” he said.

“We’re getting assistance from the Major Crash Unit in regards to that, along with the forensic pathologist (who) had provided information to us.”
