OFFICERS were forced to call backup and a police dog to stop an alleged criminal damage incident at a major grocer in Alice Springs.
Southern Watch Commander Adrian Kidney said about 3.15am officers were called the Coles after a report of criminal damage.

“Whilst attending a group of 30 to 40 people began abusing and antagonising members,” Senior Sergeant Kidney said.
“Members called for back-up including K9 member.”
One man was taken into custody for disorderly behaviour.
Snr Sgt Kidney said it was a busy night for police, with officers responding to a number of domestic violence incidents where the victims needed to be treated at Alide Springs Hospital.
He said there were a number of reports of rock throwing and criminal damage to vehicles, including some parked at the Coles car park, while others were damaged while driving in the vicinity of Billygoat Hill.

In Tennant Creet a 48-year-old man was given a notice to appear for driving unlicensed.
“He was apprehended for the purpose of a roadside breath test. When asked for his licence he replied he didn’t have one,” said Snr Sgt Kidney.
