A FATHER accused of molesting his sleeping 9-year-old daughter has faced the first day of his trial in the Supreme Court.

The man pleaded not guilty on Tuesday to one count of indecent dealing with a child under 10 years.

The court heard the man was on a mattress with his wife and daughter, in a room with two other people, in a community about 200km from Alice Springs on or about September 20, 2018 when the alleged incident occurred.

The victim was fully clothed when the man allegedly reached over the mother to where their daughter lay and inappropriately touched her.

The court heard DNA examinations of the girl and her clothing, which were conducted soon after the alleged incident, did not find sufficient enough evidence of other DNA components.

The trial continues today.
