OCEAN Alley are hoping their performance at this year’s BASSINTHEGRASS will be the first step in making it a permanent destination for the Australian rock stars.

Guitarist Mitch Galbraith said the band was looking forward to returning to the Northern Territory and to a pre-COVID-19 style performance.

“It’s fantastic to see the festivals happening again after not being on for so long. It gives us an opportunity to play and it’s an opportunity for our crew, it’s really great to see everything kicking off again,” he said.

“We’re keen to get back on the road and hopefully we come back to Darwin pretty soon after this festival, we don’t come to Darwin that many times compared to other places so we want to make it a permanent stop.”

Galbraith said the band, who’s song Confidence was named number 1 in the 2018 Triple J Hottest 100, had been looking forward to returning to the stage after spending time apart because of COVID-19 restrictions in 2020.

“Half the guys are living in Byron and we were split between Byron Bay and Sydney, we’d meet halfway and rent the house and spend some time writing,” he said.

“We’ve done a handful of gigs at the beginning of this year, all Covid safe. There was a festival in Adelaide where everyone was in the pubs, it was great to see everyone’s faces again.

“We had a couple of shows in Canberra that were all seated, that was a different experience, tailoring our live show to fit the current situation but with the festivals, as it gets safe do so, we’re looking forward to playing for everyone and dancing.”

BASSINTHEGRASS will take place on May 15 at Mindil Beach. Tickets are sold out but those who missed out can put their name the waiting list at bassinthegrass.com.au/.
