The Darwin Street Art Festival is expanding in its fifth year to create the Territory’s largest outdoor art gallery.
More than 18 new murals will be painted during the 2021 Street Art Festival to create a Territory-wide street art trail from Alice Springs to Nightcliff.
Starting in Central Australia following the Alice Springs Street Art Festival, artists are travelling from Alice Springs to Darwin, and are stopping to add colour to roadside rest areas and in Katherine and Tennant Creek as they go.
Nightcliff, Casuarina, Wulagi and Parap will also be included in this year’s event.
The final wall in the Austin Lane trio will be completed, adding a new piece of art alongside the popular works by Peter ‘CTO’ Seaton and Sofles as one of the seven murals to be painted in the Darwin CBD for this year’s festival.
Director David Collins said this year’s theme of the festival is ‘journeys’ and will be created out of murals, exhibitions and the augmented reality Darwin Street Art Festival App.
“Each year the Darwin Street Art Festival continues to grow and provide new, exciting opportunities for local artists to show their talent and add colour to the Territory,” he said. “I’m stoked that we’re able to bring street art to Tennant Creek and Katherine this year and I’m looking forward to adding new murals to Darwin’s northern suburbs.”

The Darwin component of the Street Art Festival will start on August 16 in the suburbs, with the CBD area kicking off on Friday August 30 and ending with a Wrap Up party on Saturday September 11.
The festival aims to increase visitation to Darwin, support local businesses and artists, and improve public amenity.
It is a Northern Territory Government funded initiative, delivered by local business Proper Creative and administered by Activate Darwin. Details of each artist involved in
the festival, including locations, will be released in coming weeks.
