Watch and act alert issued for Coolalinga bushfire, fireys battle blaze on Litchfield Park Rd

A watch and act alert has been issued for the Coolalinga area as emergency services battle a bushfire near Stow Road.

UPDATE 3.40pm: AUTHORITIES have issued a watch and act alert for the Coolalinga area after a bushfire broke out in the vicinity of Stow Road.

Bushfires NT said emergency services are responding to the fire and heavy smoke and flames are impacting the area.

“There is a heightened level of threat. Conditions are changing. Start taking action now to protect your family and your property.”

Defensive strategies are being undertaken to protect lives and property.

Drivers in the area are being urged to slow down, turn on headlights and drive safely for the conditions, to protect the safety of firefighting crews and other vehicles.

“Enact your bushfire survival plan. Monitor conditions as they are changing. Protect yourself against the impacts of extreme heat - wear protective clothing, stay indoors if possible.”

UPDATE 1.15pm: EMERGENCY services are still battling a bushfire at the Litchfield Park Rd and Cox Peninsula Rd intersection, which broke out after 8am this morning.

The fire is currently at Advice level and is spreading on one or more fronts.

Bushfires NT said effective containment strategies are not in place for the entire perimeter.

Smoke from this fire may affect visibility, and fires may occur close to the roadside. Firefighting crews may be working close to the roadside.

Residents are being warned that conditions may change, and to monitor conditions in your area.

“For the safety of firefighting crews and other vehicles, drivers in the area are urged to slow down, turn on headlights and drive safely for the conditions.”
