DRAG racer and burnout enthusiast Scott Sevil from Tasmania is ready to “put on a show” when he enters the hyped-up events at this weekend’s Red CentreNATS.
Despite travel restrictions making things a little trickier this year, the third-generation panel beater said he couldn’t ignore the “hype around the entire event” in Alice Springs and had to be there.
The excitable atmosphere and meeting new people is what Mr Sevil loves most about car events.
“The car community is just a great community,” he said.
“They’re so helpful, friendly, and everyone sort of backs each other.
“But when it’s competition time, it’s competition time.”

Mr Sevil said he got into the burnout scene two years ago after drag racing in Tasmania died off due to the lack of available track facilities.
“I grew up in a smash repair shop and in drag cars. My dad and pop were into them,” he said.
“I own my own smash repair shop in Tasmania.”
While it’s Mr Sevil’s first time at Red CentreNATS, his mechanical creations have been used here before.
“I built two cars to send over for two customers about three years ago,” he said.
This year he will be driving Wizard, a 1200 horsepower commodore ute with all the trappings
Entries for the Red CentreNATS this weekend have reached capacity, with 750 spots now full, but there’s still the chance to attend the action-packed three-day event as a spectator.
Entrants are coming from far and wide, including Queensland, South Australia, and Tasmania. There has been huge local support this year too, with more first-time entries than ever before.
Red CentreNATS includes burnouts, drag racing, grass driving, motorkhana, 4WD-ing, show ‘n’ shine, show cars, the famous street parade, street cruising, an after-party at Lasseters and more.
The event started in Alice Springs on Friday night and runs until Sunday.
