Red CentreNATS still aiming to go ahead in 2020 despite coronavirus pandemic

Planning for the sixth edition of the Red CentreNATS is continuing within the constraints of the constantly changing requirements in restrictions to limit the coronavirus pandemic.

Organised by the Northern Territory Major Events Company, Red CentreNATS is scheduled to be held in Alice Springs from Friday, September 4.

But the 2020 edition could be a smaller event than in previous years with restrictions limiting travel.

Planning is for it to be similar to the previous five successful events with the street parade, drags, burnouts, show and shine and the podium party.

But some of the entertainment, and the number of entries, may need to be scaled down if the current border restrictions remain in place for the foreseeable future.

A NTMEC spokespereson said the company follows the best public health advice from Australia’s Department of Health and NT Health.

“The welfare of attendees at Red CentreNATS and the Alice Springs community is paramount, and we will continue to monitor the situation in relation to COVID-19 restrictions,” the NTMEC spokesperson told the Advocate.

“NTMEC carries out a full risk assessment for each event in its portfolio, which involves looking at a range of scenarios, including if there are any changes to border restrictions.

“NTMEC recognises the benefits the much-loved Red CentreNATS brings to the Alice region and we will continue to make informed decisions based on the best advice available.”

While tickets are on sale through the Red CentreNATS web page, fans are being encouraged to wait until it is definitely known the event will be held.
