A MUSIC producer for Barkly Regional Arts is the new mayor of Barkly Regional Council.
Jeffrey McLaughlin was unanimously elected uncontested at a Special Council Meeting this afternoon.
Former mayor Steve Edgington resigned to contest the recent NT election, winning the seat of Barkly for the CLP.
Ronald Plummer will take on the role of Deputy Mayor.
Both will remain in the roles until the next Local Government election in August 2021.
Cr McLaughlin, a Tennant Creek resident, said he was “humbled and stoked” to step up to the position.

Former acting mayor, Cr Hal Ruger nominated Cr McLaughlin for the position during the meeting.
“I am overwhelmed with gratitude that my fellow councillors voted for me as mayor unanimously with no other candidate nominating,” Cr McLaughlin said.
“We as council look forward to continuing the great work as a team and continue with major infrastructure projects and programs that our council has been working hard towards over the last three years.”
Cr McLaughlin was elected as councillor on Barkly Regional Council at the NT Local Government Elections in August 2017.
“I’ve been heavily involved with the rest of the council team working towards the regional view of the team, and I’ve been involved setting up many groups, including the Environmental and Sustainability Committee and the Family and Domestic Violence Group within council,” Mr McLaughlin said.
