CURRENT Alice Springs councillor and previous mayoral candidate for the Local Government Election in August, Jamie De Brenni, has announced he will no longer be nominating for a position in the next council.
Mr De Brenni made the “regretful” announcement on his Facebook on Friday morning.
“Over the last couple of weeks I’ve had an opportunity with my business that I need to pursue for myself and family,” he said.
“I’d like to thank the community for given me the opportunity to represent for the last six years, which has included two years as deputy mayor and then to be given the honour to be the mayor.
“This decision gives me the ability to strengthen my volunteer roles such as being able to commit to my role in the CLP as president or any other role the membership needs filling for the next four years.”
He said he is also committed to other committees including the Alice Springs Youth Centre, Hamilton Downs Youth Camp, and the Alice Springs Karting Club.
“I would like to wish every candidate the best of luck and congratulate them on putting up their hand as it is a big decision that will change your life, win or lose, through the campaign and then the term.

“Again I thank everyone for the opportunity that was given to me and I’ll use the knowledge I’ve been able to gain to help local organisations into the future.
“I promise I’m not going anywhere and will always fight for our town where I can to ensure it gives the up and coming generations the same opportunities that three generations of my family have enjoyed.”
Currently the mayoral race includes councillor’s Matt Paterson, Jimmy Cocking, Marli Banks and Eli Melky, along with former councillor Steve Brown and local sportsman Aaron Blacker also having nominated themselves for the role.
The 2021 Local Government Election will be held on August 28.
