Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton photo says everything

William, Kate, Meghan and Harry stunned the world when they stepped out together in Windsor yesterday - but this photo captured a moment we all missed.

If there was one thing that was clear from Sunday’s royal walkabout, it was that Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton are definitely not best friends.

The duchess’ joined their husbands, Prince William and Prince Harry, for a surprise show of unity outside Windsor Castle yesterday, as they greeted wellwishers after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

There has been many a moment painfully-analysed from the rare reunion, from Meghan’s “rude” encounter with a royal aide, to William’s lack of chivalry toward Kate.

It’s also been noted that the Duchess of Sussex, 41, and the newly minted Princess of Wales, 40, barely acknowledged each other during the outing.

They were initially seen getting out of the same side of the car upon arrival, with Kate quickly moving to the other side of the vehicle without waiting for Meghan to join her.

Meghan and Kate got out of the same side of the car upon arrival, where they had no communication with one another.

Kate quickly walked to meet an aide, without waiting for Meghan to join.

Now, a rather poignant photograph has emerged giving an insight into their fractured relations.

The photo shows Meghan staring at Kate, who is looking at floral tributes left for Her Majesty, and the former actress’ face says it all.

The pair did not have any communication with each other during the hour-long engagement.

When the Sussexes and Cambridges gathered together at the end of the walkabout, some fans noted how Kate stared “icily” at Meghan before they waved goodbye to crowds.

It marked the first time the four royals had appeared together publicly in more than two years.

Rumours of a rift between Meghan and Kate began circulating in tabloids after Harry and Meghan’s royal wedding in May 2018.

At the time, reports suggested Meghan “made Kate cry” over Princess Charlotte’s flower girl dress.

However, Meghan claimed in her bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March last year that the narrative was entirely inaccurate, adding “the reverse happened.”

“The narrative with Kate – which didn’t happen – was really, really difficult and something that I think, that’s when everything changed, really,” Meghan said.

“And I don’t say that to be disparaging to anyone, because it was a really hard week of the wedding, and she was upset about something, but she owned it, and she apologised, and she brought me flowers and a note apologising and she did what I would do if I knew that I hurt someone. To just take accountability for it.”

However, Meghan said she was then shocked that six or seven months after her wedding the incorrect story was leaked to the press.

“I would’ve never wanted that to come out about her ever, even though it had happened. I protected that from ever being out in the world,” she told Oprah.

“A few days before the wedding, she was upset about something pertaining – yes, the issue was correct about flower girl dresses, and it made me cry and it really hurt my feelings, and I thought in the context of everything else that was going on in those days leading to the wedding that it didn’t make sense to not be just doing what everyone else was doing, which was try to be supportive, knowing what was going on with my dad and whatnot.”
