Tourist dies after falling off popular Bali cliff

A tourist who was filming the sunset at a popular lookout spot in Bali has died after falling off the edge of a cliff.

A tourist has died after falling from a cliff near a popular coastal temple in Bali.

The 22-year-old from Germany was at Pura Luhur Srijong in the western part of the holiday island to watch the sunset with his friend when he slipped on September 26, according to local media.

“The victim fell down a cliff with a height of approximately 15 metres and died,” Inspector Gusti Made Berata from Tabanan Police told TribunJateng.

The man was identified as Maximilian Alexandei Tenzer and was reportedly on his phone filming the views at the time.

“Because the victim was not careful and didn’t pay attention to his steps, the victim didn’t realise he was on the edge of a cliff and fell down,” the Tabanan Police spokesman said.

It was reported his friend, 21, called the taxi driver who had brought them to the beach and then help was called.

The tourist’s body was recovered by Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) and local police.

In footage posted in the Facebook group of Potsar Bhuana Bali Rescue, men could be seen standing in a bushy area below the cliff just off the beach.

Subsequent images showed a group working in the dark with torches to recover Mr Tenzer’s body.

Salemadeg district chief I Wayan Budiarsa told local media Mr Tenzer had been in Bali three weeks and planned to go home just three days after the fatal fall.
