A MAN and a woman escorted by police from a Jetstar flight on Wednesday face flying bans and possible charges after a fight broke out between the two during the early morning Phuket-Sydney service.

Other passengers stepped into break up the fight between the 27-year-old man and 42-year-old woman in the Business Class cabin mid-flight.

Another man on board said a reclined seat triggered the stoush but a Jetstar spokesman refused to confirm the circumstances which are now under investigation by Australian Federal Police.

“Our crew on board acted quickly and the customers were separated for the remainder of the flight,” he said.

“We don’t tolerate disruptive behaviour by passengers on our flights. We will conduct a review with a view to banning these passengers from travelling with us in the future.”

An AFP spokeswoman confirmed officers responded to a request from Jetstar at Sydney Airport yesterday afternoon.

“A 27-year-old man and 42-year-old woman were escorted from a flight arriving from Phuket,” said the spokeswoman.

“Investigations remain ongoing and as such, it would not be appropriate to comment further.”

It remains unclear whether alcohol was a factor in the incident.

In July, a Jetstar flight from Sydney to Phuket was forced to divert to Bali after a wild drunken brawl allegedly involving six men.

Jetstar has indicated it will seek to recover the cost of the diversion from the men once the AFP’s investigation is complete.

The men have also been banned from Jetstar and parent company Qantas indefinitely.

A Jetstar spokesman said the length of the ban would be determined after the investigation.

The International Air Transport Association recently revealed a global increase in “unruly passenger incidents” and called for collaboration between airlines and airports to address the issue.
