Passenger goes on hammer rampage at airport
Passengers watched on in shock as a man went on a hammer rampage at an airport, smashing an airline’s TV monitors.
A furious passenger went on a terrifying hammer rampage at an airport after he was allegedly scammed.
Footage shows the man smashing a check-in desk at Santiago International Airport in Chile after reportedly realising he was sold a fake ticket to Miami.
The man was planning on flying to Florida on his way to Haiti before chaos broke out on Tuesday.
Police said that after arguing with airline employees, he began smashing items at the counter with a hammer he pulled from his backpack.
Onlookers watched in dismay as footage captured the man hitting several PCs and mounting screens.
Authorities say he damaged the five computers and six displays for at least 20 million Chilean pesos — around $32,000.
It is thought the equipment belongs to American Airlines.
The man then approached a luggage trolley and began wheeling it away, before a woman arrived to confront him.
The fuming passenger was placed under arrest by authorities and was scheduled to appear before a judge on Wednesday.
Western Santiago Prefecture Patrol Lieutenant Manuel Narváez said: “During the course of the afternoon, a Haitian national who had problems boarding a flight he had purchased realised that this flight had never been reserved.”
According to Narváez, the man became enraged after discovering he had allegedly been defrauded, Chilean paper El Dínamo reported.
Following the rampage, American Airlines said in a statement: “Local law enforcement responded to the airport lobby area at Santiago de Chile (SCL) due to a disruptive individual.
“We thank our team for their professionalism and apologise to our customers for the inconvenience.”
It comes after another furious traveller was seen putting gum in another passenger’s hair before dunking it in coffee.
The woman sat at the front had been shamed for hanging her hair over the back of a plane seat, draping it onto someone else’s tray table.
