Mum-of-two dies while on holiday in Queensland
Tributes have flowed for a mum who died suddenly while on holiday in Queensland with her daughter.
A loving mum has been remembered as a “beautiful soul” after she tragically died while on holiday in Queensland.
Amanda Snell died on June 30 while on a trip with her daughter.
The 40-year-old single mum-of-two had just spent a month in hospital before deciding to visit her brother up in Queensland for an extended holiday.
The interstate trip was meant to be a relaxing time to help the mum “rest and recover” after being unwell.
But tragically, she became “gravely ill” during the holiday and had to return to hospital, where she sadly died from a blood infection.
“Our beautiful, much loved by all, Amanda Sarah Ivy Snell, passed away Friday 30th June after succumbing to an infection,” a friend wrote on a GoFundMe, set up for the family.
“Amanda and her young daughter Matilda had very recently gone to Queensland to stay with her brother Michael for an extended holiday, to rest and recover after becoming unwell and spending almost a month in hospital.
“While Amanda was holidaying, resting and recovering, she became unwell again and was admitted to hospital where she became gravely ill from a super bug in her blood.
“Her body wasn’t strong enough to fight it.
“Michael had the heart wrenching job of making the decision to permit them to turn off her life support and allow Amanda to stop her fight and suffering.”
A blood infection, otherwise known as septicaemia, is a life-threatening condition.
It occurs when a bacterial infection enters the bloodstream from elsewhere in the body, such as the skin, lungs, kidney or bladder.
Septicaemia can quickly progress to sepsis, which can result in organ failure and death.
The fundraiser has brought in just under $5000 so far, which the page says is to help give the mum the goodbye she deserves and help her children during this difficult time.
“I have created this in hopes we can raise money to get Amanda home and give her the memorial and send off she deserves, where everyone who loved her can come together and share memories and celebrate her life,” the page said.
“Whatever money is remaining will go toward her children to give support where ever needed.
“Thank you for your generosity. It will ease the financial burden on her family and allow for a more seamless process to plan her celebration of life.”
Dozens of Amanda’s friends and family shared heartfelt tributes online after hearing about her passing.
“I’ve been so lucky to have had such a kind, loving, amazing, strong, funny and caring friend like you [Ms Snell] in my life for the past 20 plus years,” one wrote.
“I’m shattered you are not here anymore. I will miss you dearly my gorgeous girl. You were the strongest women I’ve ever known in my life! I will miss you forever.”
“Thank you for being in my life. You always had the right words to say,” another said.
“May you forever rest now, be at peace, pain free and filled with love from us down here.”
“Amanda was a beautiful soul, taken too soon,” wrote another.
