A young girl has tragically died in an apparent drowning during a camping trip in North Queensland.
A young girl has tragically died in an apparent drowning during a camping trip in North Queensland.
The nine-year-old died near the Bivouac Junction camp grounds, located about 30km east of Charters Towers, on Saturday, July 8.
Paramedics rushed to the scene and found the primary school-aged girl in a critical condition, but despite their best efforts, she could not be revived.
“Paramedics attended a drowning incident on Bivouac Junction Road at 4.16pm on July 8 and assessed a primary-school-aged female patient in a critical condition, the patient was sadly declared deceased on scene,” a Queensland Ambulance spokeswoman said.
Police told news.com.au they are preparing a report for the coroner.
Bivouac Junction is a holiday park located on private property at the junction of the Burdekin and Fanning Rivers.
The park has powered and unpowered sites, as well as cabins that overlook the junction.
