Boy dies after 15m fall while practising parkour at Spanish hotel
A young boy has died after he fell 15m off the roof of a hotel while practising parkour, leaving witnesses distraught.
A young boy has died after he fell 15m while practising parkour at a hotel on the Costa Blanca in Spain.
The 11-year-old boy from Norway, who lived in the Spanish town of Alfaz del Pi, plunged from the roof of an unnamed hotel in front of horrified witnesses.
He was rushed to a nearby hospital in Alicante in a critical condition but died soon after arriving at around 3pm on Sunday.
His heartbroken mother, 47, was also taken to hospital after suffering a panic attack when she learned about her son’s fall.
It’s understood the avid parkour participant was practising the sport when he fell more than 15m after he stepped on a dome-like structure which gave way.
A spokesman for Spain’s Civil Guard said the tragedy is currently being investigated.
“But everything is pointing to the tragedy being the result of negligence on the part of the youngster who died,” the spokesperson said.
“In an accident he appears to have fallen about 52 feet [15.8m], landing in the reception hall on the ground floor.”
The boy, who was not a guest at the hotel, was rushed to Marina Baixa Hospital in Villajoyosa and then Alicante General University Hospital, where he died around 11.30pm.
Emergency responders reportedly started getting calls immediately after the boy fell.
Parkour is a sport in which practitioners attempt to get from point A to point B in the fastest and most efficient way possible.
