Baralaba Hotel burns down following horrific blaze
An historic pub has been destroyed after an early morning fire broke out, forcing guests to evacuate.
An historic pub in Queensland was destroyed by fire days out from an annual popular music event.
Emergency services were called to reports of a fire at the Baralaba Hotel in Baralaba, about 140 kilometres south of Rockhampton about 2.45am on Saturday.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze by 5.40am.
Queensland Ambulance Service paramedics assessed 13 people who were inside the historic outback pub when it erupted into flames.
All hotel guests were quickly evacuated from the building and accounted for, with nobody needing to go to hospital.
It’s understood part of the hotel’s roof collapsed during the blaze.
The hotel and Baralaba community were just days away from celebrating the annual Baralaba Bash hosted by the pub.
Queensland Police are investigating the blaze but it’s understood it isn’t being treated as suspicious.
Organisers confirmed the music event will still go ahead despite the lack of a venue, merchandise and point of sale equipment.
“The Hotel is no more,” organisers wrote on social media.
“We are beyond grateful and relieved that everyone staying at the hotel is accounted for.
“Baralaba is a resilient community and we will rally to make necessary changes to make the weekend very special.
“We will need to make a few changes to plans, with the possibility that the Street Party will be held at the Main Stage location.
“We will provide logistical updates in the next few days when we have had the opportunity to regroup.”
The Baralaba Hotel has been operating since 1929 under various names, and was recently listed for sale through offers to purchase for the first time since 1981.
The venue was leased until January 2028.
