Dozens are mourning beloved Sunshine Coast man Jacob Mabb a week after he was left with horrific injuries after crashing his scooter in Bali.

The 21-year-old former surf coach crashed the scooter on November 25, suffering severe head injuries that left him in a coma in Bali.

A huge fundraising effort started by his friends and family helped with flying Jacob home.

The GoFundMe page raised more than $50,000 in less than a week with an RACQ LifeFlight air ambulance jet bringing Jacob home on December 1.

The 21-year-old was taken to Royal Brisbane Hospital with his parents by his side.

Jacob’s dad Steve Mabb said doctors at Royal Brisbane Hospital had told the family the 21-year-old had a 10 per cent chance of waking up from his coma.

Speaking to the ABC, Mr Mabb thanked the Sunshine Coast community for the immense support.

“It has been amazing, the support so far, and it blows my mind how people that I don’t know — that maybe know him or maybe don’t — that have been very supportive,” Mr Mabb told the ABC after his son’s air ambulance landed in Brisbane.

“We have been blown away by what people are capable of.”

A number of Jacob’s friends have taken to Facebook to mourn their loss, describing him as having a “heart of gold”.

“It’s with a heavy heart and a hazy mind that I post this!” Sunshine Coast surfer Rob Sherwell wrote this morning.

“RIP Jacob Mabb you were such an awesome young man, Jacob lost his battle to his injury yesterday from a motorbike accident in Bali just over a week ago! He was so loved and respected by so many, I am so shattered such a lovely young man!

“I am so proud and happy that we got to know you like a son! You are gone now, but we will have you in our hearts forever! Love you mate! I am gutted!!”

Another Sherwell mourned Jacob’s death, describing the promising surfer as having an everlasting impact on the family.

“Over the years you became one of the family, mum looked at you like another son and all us boys in the XL team lorded you. You were such a kind soul,” Josh Sherwell wrote.

“Thank you Jacob, the kindness in your heart has made an everlasting impact on our family and guaranteed everyone who was lucky enough to meet you.

“To the Mabb family, I send my love and prayers through this time, your son was a great man and his character is a testament to the love he must have been surrounded by every single day with you all.”

Another friend, Kimberly Ferguson, said Jacob “truly was a gem”.

“Man, I am gutted by this news. Jake always had so much passion and excitement for his incredible future. Travel, uni, school life... he was a sweet heart inside and out,” she wrote.

“I am so sorry to the Mabb family and the XL family. He truly was a gem.”

Jacob worked for the XL Surfing Academy for five years before studying at Sunshine Coast University.

The 21-year-old’s death comes a month after a Perth man died in a separate Bali scooter crash.

Callan Jay Everts, 32, died when his scooter crashed into the wall of the Santo Paulus Church in the tourist hotspot of North Kuta on October 17.

Two months before Callan’s death, Sydney man Ollie Dousset lost his leg after he was involved in a horror scooter accident in Bali.

The 26-year-old from Sydney’s northern beaches had been travelling on the back of a scooter as he headed back to his accommodation in Uluwatu on August 11, when he was tragically run over by a cement truck as it attempted to overtake them.
