Five of our six Melbourne tipsters had their best bet finish second (Fast ‘n’ Rocking $3.50, Prince Of Brooklyn $4.80 and Butterboom $5), while placings were also popular in Sydney with Dee Nine Elle ($3.70) and Extensible ($3.10). Nathan Exelby’s tip Colinelle ($6) finished a close third at Doomben.

SEASON REVIEW: WINNERS & LOSERS IN 2015-16
RANDWICK
NIC ASHMAN (Daily Telegraph). Form: x4849
LIE DIRECT
Race 2, No. 8
Super fit and likes to roll along in his races, which will suit given he’ll carry 3kg less than his nearest rival. Handles wet too.
TAB Fixed Odds: $6.50
STEPHEN ZAMMIT (Daily Telegraph). Form: 47252
BURNING PASSION
Race 9, No. 2
Plenty to like about the win by Burning Passion at this track on July 9. He ploughed through the mud and gave nothing else a chance over the concluding stages. Looks to be on the way up for trainer James Cummings and he has been freshened up with a barrier trial win late last month. can win again.
TAB Fixed Odds: $1.50
JOHN DAVIS (Daily Telegraph). Form: x4563
MEDITERRANEAN
Race 6, No. 3
Only had a limited winter campaign, winning his only start at Canterbury. He set the track alight that day to suggest there are better things in store. Up and running, he looked sharp in a recent Randwick trial win. Tough nut to crack.
TAB Fixed Odds: $2.10
SHAYNE O’CASS (Sportsman). Form: x2838
DIXIE BLOSSOMS
Race 8, No. 2
Comes into this race off the back of a strong trial at Randwick last month. Has been placed a group 3 level and looks to be primed for a big spring campaign.
TAB Fixed Odds: $4
DARREN PRENDERGAST (SuperRacing). Form: 75643
THRONUM
Race 6, No. 2
Can bounce back after blowing chances last start after a slow start. Won over this track and distance on heavy track last month and will be right in the mix with a good start.
TAB Fixed Odds: $3.50
NICK QUINN (TAB). Form: 16232
MEDITERRANEAN
Race 6, No. 3
Resumed from a spell with a dominant win at Canterbury and will be worth sticking with as he goes through the grades this campaign.
TAB Fixed Odds: $2.10

FLEMINGTON
MATT STEWART (Herald Sun). Form: 01546
MISS DENNI
Race 8, No. 5
Smart Chris Waller-trained mare with good first-up record. Trialled well in Sydney recently and might be a level above the local mares.
TAB Fixed Odds: $11
MICHAEL MANLEY (Herald Sun). Form: 1x232
ROYAL RAPTURE
Race 4, No. 4
Strong effort winning at Flemington last start. Drops four kilos on that win and should make it three Flemington wins from his past three starts.
TAB Fixed Odds: $3
DARLY TIMMS (Herald Sun). Form: 12622
RUETTIGER
Race 7, No. 9
Likes the track and is coming off a good win at headquarters.
TAB Fixed Odds: $3.50
SIMON MOY (SuperRacing). Form: 261x2
PETROLOGY
Race 4, No. 2
Made good ground but was never going to catch Iggimacool over 1600m early last month. Reckon extra 100m is ideal for his late sprint.
TAB Fixed Odds: $4.60
CHRIS VERNUCCIO (SuperRacing). Form: 61222
ULMANN
Race 5, No. 6
The pace won’t be as hectic as last start, but there should still be good speed for the Darren Weir-trained gelding to run on strong and go back to back.
TAB Fixed Odds: $3

EAGLE FARM
NATHAN EXELBY (The Courier-Mail). Form: 72x43
CRUISING SPEED
Race 5, No. 11
Already proven on this tricky Eagle Farm surface and was able to handle the zippier Doomben 1350m last time, despite breeding suggesting she will be better over further. Back to the more testing 1400m at Eagle Farm, she will be strong at the end and hard to hold out.
TAB Fixed Odds: $3.70
BRAD DAVIDSON (Gold Coast Bulletin). Form: 53121
PANNO ROSSA
Race 4, No. 1
Ran on well last start but the big weight (59kg) probably cost him the race. He gets in with just 56.5kg here with the claim of talented apprentice Josh Oliver and the Eagle Farm track should suit him. Hard to beat.
TAB Fixed Odds: $3.70
MARKETS: TAB FIXED ODDS
MORPHETTVILLE
SPORTSMAN PREVIEW: MORPHETTVILLE
BEN SCADDEN (The Advertiser). Form: 42426
USAIN DANE
Race 6, No. 1
Talented gelding who has been racing consistently in good company recently. He hit the line strongly when a close-up third to Scratchy Lass last time and looks well placed in this with the 2kg claim for Hong Kong apprentice Kei Chiong. Expecting him to be finishing hard.
TAB Fixed Odds: $4.40
LINCOLN MOORE (The Advertiser). Form: x6271
RAVEN’S FIRE
Race 5, No. 3
Victorian mare with her hoof on the til back home. Drawn nicely here against an even lot of mares and gets in very well with the claim for Brooke Sweeney.
TAB Fixed Odds: $4.80
