Games chief defends missing athletes

AT LEAST 11 African athletes and officials are believed to have fled during the Games, with speculation they will try to seek asylum in Australia, but the Commonwealth Games Federation chief has called for a reality check.

‘She’s more than just a dance’

NO Sally Pearson but Michelle Jenneke has delivered a brave effort to finish fourth in the 100m hurdles. Meanwhile, Bendigo bowler Aaron Wilson kickstarted a party and continued a team tradition by tearing his shirt off after winning gold.

Green machine keeps Aussies on track

ALMOST a year to the day after she blew out her knee, a sizzling solo try from speedster Ellia Green helped the Australian women’s sevens team sidestep an upset loss to England and finish the opening day of Commonwealth Games competition unbeaten.
