Qld Police charge 42-year-old man with murder after Kilkivan stabbing
A man shot by police has since been charged with murder after he allegedly fatally stabbed his uncle at a rural property.
A 42-year-old man who was shot by police has been charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed his uncle during the tense scenes.
Queensland Police were called after reports of a disturbance at a home on Running Creek Rd in Kilkivan, near Gympie, shortly after 3pm on April 12.
A 55-year-old Kilkivan man was found with critical stab wounds and died at the home.
While at the property, police shot the 42-year-old Kilkivan man after he allegedly threatened attending officers with a knife.
The 42-year-old man allegedly stabbed his uncle before police arrived.
He has since been charged with one count each of murder and serious assault police officer while armed with a weapon.
The man remains under police guard in hospital for treatment to the injuries he sustained during the shooting.
He will appear in the Maroochydore Magistrates Court on July 26.
Speaking to media after the alleged murder in April, Acting Superintendent Paul Algie described the incident as “shocking”.
“Kilkivan is a very small country community and our officers in that community are obviously very concerned about what occurred,” he said.
“As the district officer, this is the worst phone call that you can receive.
“There is generally no crime in the community and so this is a very shocking thing.”
