A quiet Sunshine Coast street has become the centre of a police investigation after a man was found dead following a violent altercation in broad daylight.

Neighbours described hearing yelling and witnessing a naked man running just moments before emergency services arrived.

Detective Senior Sergeant Robert Lowry said police had been called to a Deejay St address after a dispute between two men on Monday afternoon.

Two men, aged 49 and 82, who both lived at the same property.

During the altercation, a 47-year-old nearby resident heard the commotion and went to the property to assist.

“Shortly afterwards, the 49-year-old male has become unconscious,” Sergeant Lowry said.

CPR was performed at the scene, but the man died.

The 47-year-old man attended the Maroochydore police station shortly after the incident and was released without charge.

Sergeant Lowry emphasised that police were conducting a “complete, thorough, and transparent” investigation to determine the exact circumstances.

“We are investigating that it was a physical altercation,” he said.

“There is a nexus between the altercation and the victim becoming unconscious.”

Detective Lowry added that the incident had deeply affected the family of the deceased and the immediate neighbourhood.

“The family are holding up but naturally they are very distressed,” he said.

An autopsy is scheduled for Wednesday morning.

Deejay St resident Angie Windsor told the Sunshine Coast Daily that she and her family heard shouting about 20 minutes before emergency services arrived.

“We’ve heard yelling coming from down the road ... we went out to the front deck to see what was happening and there was a guy yelling, being frustrated and quite angry. He was naked and we saw him running,” Ms Windsor told the publication.

Ms Windsor added that the street was usually quiet, and she hadn’t noticed any previous disturbances from the house.

“It is pretty scary, I suppose,” she said.

Sergeant Lowry assured the public that there was no ongoing threat to safety and no weapons were involved.

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the incident are ongoing, and police are appealing for public assistance.
