Three men charged over alleged failed shooting outside Marrickville barber shop
Three men have been charged over an alleged failed shooting outside a barber shop that left two people with gunshot wounds.
Three men have been charged after they were arrested in their jail cells over an alleged shooting near a Marrickville barber shop, following the public release of CCTV footage.
Strike force detectives arrested a 28-year-old man in his jail cell at a Correctional Centre in Grafton, more than 600km north of Sydney, on Tuesday.
The next morning two other men – aged 26 and 27 – were taken from custody and arrested at Kempsey Police Station on the NSW Mid North Coast.
It is understood all three men were already in prison due to matters not related to the incident.
The arrests come after detectives from Task Force Magnus released CCTV footage of the drive-by-shooting on Tuesday, in hopes the public could help end a months-long investigation.
In the video, two men allegedly dressed in black are seen leaving a white Toyota Aurien at the time Adel’s Hair Salon was attacked in Marrickville on July 7.
The alleged incident left William, 33, and Eric Siale, 20, in hospital with serious gun wounds after a man allegedly charged into the shop and sprayed the men with bullets.
Shortly after the alleged shooting emergency services responded to reports of two burnt-out vehicles – a grey Kia Stinger and white Triton Ute – abandoned in Marrickville and Dulwich Hill.
Two days later a third burnt-out car – the white Toyota Aurien – was found in Smithfield.
The alleged broad-daylight attack sparked a major investigation under Strike Force Orsino, which led to multiple search warrants and inquiries.
At the time, Detective Acting Superintendent Glyn Baker said “whether through vehicle stops, door knocks, or compliance checks – our best detectives are on this case, relentlessly pursuing leads to find those responsible”.
“We are working closely with Raptor squad to ensure that while inquiries are being made, OMCG associates continue to feel the insistent pressure from police,”
The 28-year-old man was refused bail and appeared before Newtown Local Court on Wednesday, where he was charged with shoot at with intent to murder and participate in a criminal group.
Police allege the man was also involved in stealing a car used in the getaway.
The other two men where also refused bail and will reappear at Burwood Local Court on Wednesday January 17, charged with shoot at with intent to murder and participate in a criminal group.
Police also allege they were involved in the staging and burning of the vehicles used in the shooting.
