Rebel Wilson’s personal trainer has opened up about his most famous client – and has shared his top weight loss and fitness tips that even mere mortals can follow.

Speaking to the US TODAY show recently, Sydney-based Jono Castano said working with the Hollywood superstar had inspired him to potentially move to Los Angeles in the future to work with other high-profile personalities.

But he stressed that his methods weren’t just for elites – and shared his top five weight loss and fitness tips that can help anyone reach their goals.

POST ON SOCIAL MEDIA

Firstly, Mr Castano said social media could be a powerful motivational tool even before the hard work actually started.

That’s why he suggests people post about their goals publicly, which will help to keep you accountable when your willpower fades.

“Keep yourself accountable, free posting on social,” he told the program.

Rebel has been posting for the whole 2020 about her journey, the ups and downs.”

He also suggested joining online communities for added support.

“Also, join a community group, where members post their meals, their workouts, the creative steps they are taking. And I think that’s definitely a massive boost if you’re trying to get fit,” he said.

RETHINK THE WAY YOU MOVE

Mr Castano is a huge fan of #45 Daily, which involves moving for 45 minutes every single day.

But he said it didn’t have to be traditional workouts only.

Instead, it also pays to rethink the way you get around – which means not always relying on your car.

“Don’t just jump in your car, like even if it’s Uber or whatever it is, think of different ways to get to your destination. Maybe it’s a walk. I think that’s a great thing as well because I’m a big believer that #45 Daily, so include 45 minutes into your day where you are moving,” he said.

He also shared a weekly fitness schedule similar to the one Wilson follows, which includes:

Day 1: High-intensity interval training (HIIT)

Day 2: Weights/resistance

Day 3: Mobility/recovery

Day 4: HIIT

Day 5: HIIT/weights

Day 6: Recovery

Day 7: HIIT

USE TECHNOLOGY

Next up, Mr Castano urged people to look into free fitness apps such as My Fitness Pal.

“You can set your goal and then it’ll basically give you a breakdown in terms of how much calories you need to intake per day,” he said.

“And then you type in your food, what you’re currently eating, it creates that accountability, and it gives you the understanding of food calories. It also gives you a water breakdown as well, because a lot of us tend to not intake enough water.”

INVEST IN A HOME GYM

According to Mr Castano, the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdowns means it’s the perfect time to use the money you’d normally spend on a gym membership for equipment to be used at home.

It’ll make working out easier and more accessible even when everything reopens again.

“For example, a set of dumbbells or a kettlebell or two. With those you could do so many different movements and do so many different workouts with, so you’re not only investing into your own gym, you’re investing in yourself as well,” Mr Castano said.

PRACTICE PORTION CONTROL

Finally, the trainer suggested swapping your regular three daily meals into six smaller portions to be eaten throughout the day.

It will help to keep you satisfied for longer – and resist the urge to snack.

“Eat to be satisfied, not full,” he said.

“So you don’t have to starve yourself, but you don’t have to make yourself full as well, so eat to be satisfied instead.”
