“You’re gorgeous. I wish I was as comfortable in my skin as you are. You’re an inspiration to me, Fiona you have been for years,” said one.
Another added: “You hot thang!”
The snap, which generated more than 2000 likes, also featured a raft of comments praising Fiona for being brave enough to venture into the icy waters of the Queenstown lake.
“Good lord you brave soul! That water is always icy, even on a 30-degree day,” said one.
Another added: “Bet that water is colder than it looks!”
While today Fiona radiates happiness and self-acceptance, she previously revealed she had overcome her share of struggles.
After appearing on The Biggest Loser in 2006, she lost 30kg; however, despite major success, she found herself spiralling into a deep depression.
In a previous column for news.com.au, Fiona revealed she had embraced a range of positive coping strategies to help her transform her experience – and embrace a healthy way of living.
“Some of the things that helped me over the years is to practise positive affirmations and actively try to change the negative thoughts in my head into positive ones,” she said.
“But the honest truth is there is no magic button, there are no quick fixes and there are days when I really struggle to stay positive and confident.
“I am human after all. Some days are good days, some are bad and so many factors can impact the way I feel about myself and my body.”
As well as developing a more resilient attitude towards life, the body positive advocate said she also embraced the benefits of regular training – and not only as a way to stay in shape.
“Training has one of the biggest impacts on the way I feel about my body. If I’m making the time to train every week I feel incredible,” she said.
“My body may look the same, but I feel strong, fit and healthy, which reflects in the way I view my body. Training also really helps with my mental state.
“I have suffered from anxiety, and when I train it really helps keep it under control.
“Nothing beats the feeling after you have trained, and I always focus on that feeling to help motivate me to train regularly.”
