Masked Singer Australia unmasks Lightning as Alli Simpson

The latest celebrity contestant has been revealed on The Masked Singer – a musician, actor and famous sibling. WARNING: Spoilers.

The Masked Singer has revealed the famous face and vocal chords underneath the Lightning get-up as Alli Simpson.

Simpson is the sister of singer and swimmer Cody Simpson, who won the first season of The Masked Singer Australia.

She is no stranger to reality TV either. She was on TV earlier this year in the most recent season of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here and has also been a part of a SBS series Filthy Rich and Homeless.

Simpson moved to Los Angeles at the age of 12 with her family when they followed Cody across the Pacific. There, she hosted a radio show for Disney. She’s also recorded her own music.

The panellists weren’t even close in guessing who she was and all admitted to being embarrassed. Jackie O said, “Oh, what a twist, I would never have thought.”

Simpson smugly declared, “I had you all fooled”.

The panellists’ incorrect guesses for Lightning were Maddie Ziegler from Jackie O, Tones and I from Urzila Carlson, Angie Kent from Dannii Minogue and Sally Pearson from Dave Hughes.

It comes after a massive Sunday night episode of the show, which saw US soul singer Macy Gray and Aussie shock jock Kyle Sandilands unmasked. Sandilands’ one-episode stint as a character for Paw Patrol was especially shocking for judge Jackie O, given the pair have been on-air radio partners for more than 20 years.

“This is the worst you can get, I’m never living this down … this is so embarrassing,” she said after Kyle took off his mask.

“When you were singing, there was a flash of you in my mind, but then I was like, ‘No.’ You never even let on once. We work together every morning, I‘ve been telling you about Masked Singer every day. All the while, you knew you were gonna be on it!”

Last week, singer Mahalia Barnes, rugby league legend Loti Tuqiri and Australian singer-songwriter Ben Lee were unmasked as contestants. Before that, MasterChef judge George Calombaris was the second celeb to be revealed.

British film star Vinnie Jones provided a genuine surprise to viewers when he was the first celeb revealed this season.
