The Masked Singer Australia’s pavlova is unmasked

WARNING: Spoilers. Pavlova has removed their mask to reveal themselves tonight, with not one of the judges guessing correctly.

Sweet-talking songstress pavlova was unmasked on Tuesday night, with the performer revealing themselves as Mahalia Barnes.

Hilariously, Mahalia has been thrown out as a guess by the judges almost every night of every season... Apart from this year, of course.

Acknowledging the oversight, Mahalia teased that she’d been getting consistent tweets about appearing on the show in years prior, which is what led her to sign up.

“I don’t know if you’ve watched Masked Singer before, but every year we guess you so many times. And this year we are like, ‘No, it’s not her’,”
said Dannii.

“I’ve received many tweets,” Mahalia quipped back.

“You blindsided us,” Jackie exclaimed, as Dannii added: “I don’t think we once mentioned your name this year. We’d given up hope.

“I mean, I’ve heard you sing so many times. And I’m floored that none of us got this.”

When asked what made her join the quirky competition, Mahalia joked “Well, I kept receiving all of these tweets every year, asking if I was on The Masked Singer. I thought, ‘Why haven’t I been asked to be on The Masked Singer?’”

She went on to reveal that her dad, music legend Jimmy Barnes, was the only person who knew she’d signed up for the challenge.

Earlier this week, rugby league legend Loti Tukiri and Australian singer-songwriter Ben Lee were both unmasked as contestants. Before that, MasterChef judge George Calombaris was the second celeb to be revealed.

This season of The Masked Singer started with a bang, with British film star Vinnie Jones providing a genuine surprise to viewers when he was the first celeb revealed during last week’s premiere.

Jones was all smiles on screen – but gave a less enthusiastic appraisal of the show during an interview with Kyle and Jackie O the next day, telling them he signed up for the “big cheque” and that he found the top-secret filming procedures annoying.

“You know what, as soon as the cheque clears, then the big stick comes out and they start whacking you on the arse with it. They started bossing me around,” he said of his behind-the-scenes experience.

“I wanted to give a few of them a little slap, but every time I wanted to do that, they put a cape over my head and I couldn’t see anyone.”

The Masked Singer continues Sunday night from 7.30 on Channel 10
