Lisa and David Oldfield’s ‘terrible’ Kyle and Jackie O stunt

KYLE and Jackie O had troubled couple Lisa and David Oldfield in the studio this morning for a bizarre stunt even Kyle himself admitted was awful.

LISA and David Oldfield made a bizarre appearance on the Kyle and Jackie O show this morning, casting more light on their dysfunctional relationship — and submitting to a listener phone-in about whether or not they should stay together.

“Call us now. David and Lisa Oldfield, should they stay together or should they call it a day?” asked Jackie O breezily as the phone lines for the KIIS 1065 show opened.

Even Sandilands couldn’t hide his disdain for the stunt: “What a terrible radio contest,” he said with a sigh.

Before they took calls from listeners, Lisa — who last week announced plans to divorce David on Instagram, before calling in to Kyle and Jackie O the next morning to backtrack — gave a few shocking insights into the couple’s 17-year marriage.

The Oldfields recounted the story of an ex-girlfriend of David’s who moved to the US but whom David’s friends still asked after fondly — much to Lisa’s annoyance.

“I wanted her gone, dead,” said Lisa — so that’s what she did. Oldfield faked an online obituary and police report declaring her husband’s former flame had died, then broke the ‘news’ to David that she had passed away.

“Can I just say in my defence, I wasn’t jealous of her — I just couldn’t stand that [his friends would ask about her]. But then the next dinner party was basically a wake for her! Oh my god, this has blown up in my face.”

It was five long years before Lisa came clean and admitted to David that she’d faked his ex-girlfriend’s death.

“None of it’s surprising to me nowadays, which is sad,” said David of his wife’s dishonesty.

Lisa also admitted to regularly checking David’s phone and email accounts — and at one stage posing as David while using his phone to text abuse to another ex-girlfriend.

Kyle and Jackie O asked about the current state of the pair’s rocky relationship. Are they good?

“We were up until s***head here started bragging about his love life as an ageing Lothario,” said Lisa.

She agreed that holding a phone poll on the future of their relationship seemed like a great idea: “I’d like to run it up the flagpole.”

The pair fielded a few calls, the tone set with the first caller who labelled them “Disgusting. The way you talk to each other is disgusting.”

David offered one defence for the pair’s habit of airing their dirty laundry in public:

“If we can have no laughter in our own lives, the least we can do is bring a bit of laughter to other people’s lives,” he said.

As for Lisa, who was slammed by her Real Housewives of Sydney castmates during Sunday’s reunion for her habit of posting inflammatory material on Instagram, marital trouble is just more material to “share with my 27,000 closest Instagram friends.”
