Kyle Sandilands reveals exorbitant wedding spend, including $150,000 on flowers
What cost of living crisis? Kyle Sandilands has listed the exorbitant amount he’s splashing on his upcoming wedding, including $150,000 on flowers alone.
Kyle Sandilands has revealed the exorbitant amount of cash he’s splashing on his upcoming wedding with Tegan Kynaston.
The KIIS FM radio host, who is one of the highest paid personalities in Australia rumoured to be on around $8 million a year, discussed his eye-watering expenses for the nuptials on The Kyle and Jackie O Show on Thursday morning.
Sandilands, 51, who proposed to Kynaston, 36, in January last year, said the couple had a meeting with their wedding planner on Wednesday night, where he realised how much he was spending on the lavish affair, set to take place next month.
“The bills were all coming in. They’re fine, they’re manageable,” Sandilands began.
“There’s many pages of things, and I’m glancing through and I’m going to the end, like, ‘What’s the cost of this thing?’
“It didn’t have a total, there’s still a few things to add, but I did notice the flowers are quite expensive: $150,000 for flowers.”
His co-host, Jackie ‘O’ Henderson, pointed out that price alone was “double” the cost of her own wedding in 2012, which she said totalled around $80,000.
Sandilands said he’s also ordered custom linen napkins for 130 guests, which are embroidered with his own personalised family crest. The co-hosts speculated the napkins were costing around $10,000 to $15,000.
He added the bill for catering was $100,000, which includes $35,000 on caviar.
“So we’re already up to $250,000 and we’ve only got flowers and food,” Sandilands said.
The Australian Idol judge added that he was also spending a small fortune on entertainment. That’s despite musicians – including Guy Sebastian – doing the gig for free.
“But you’ve gotta fly in the drummer from Melbourne, and the guitarist needs transfers and an overnight stay. They’re coming from all over the country. The best musicians,” he said.
“So I think where the band gets expensive … Guy is performing in the marquee, then inside the disco venue – it’s all in the one mansion – instead of unplugging the keyboard and dragging it inside, I’ve got two setups.
“I just approved everything just so I could get back to [watching] television.”
Sandilands and Kynaston, who welcomed their son Otto in August, are set to be wed on April 29 in Sydney.
Kynaston had previously been Sandilands’ personal assistant when they got together in 2019.
Sandilands proposed to her in Port Douglas in January 2022, with a ring worth a rumoured $1.14 million.
The pair threw an elaborate baby shower on a yacht on Sydney Harbour last February, with two planes dropping blue smoke to reveal the couple was having a boy.
Meanwhile, Sandilands and Henderson’s long-running radio show continues to explode in popularity. It was announced today that the radio duo have once again topped the ratings, with their show going up 1.1 points to have a 15.9 per cent audience share.
Not only are they the clear FM market leaders, they’ve also overtaken Ben Fordham’s breakfast show on 2GB on the AM dial. Fordham dropped 1.7 points to have a 14 per cent audience share.
And for the first time ever, Sandilands and Henderson’s podcast ranked as the number one podcast in the country in February, with 4.73 million downloads.
It’s also been an expensive month for Henderson, 48, who won a bidding war at auction on Saturday for a $13.25 million home in Clovelly in Sydney’s eastern suburbs.
Sandilands and Henderson re-signed a contract with ARN in 2019, which will see them remain on-air until the end of 2024.
News.com.au reported at the time the new contracts guarantee them between $7-8 million each per year.
The staggering deal means they get paid more than $39,000 each per three-and-a-half hour radio show.
