Karl Stefanovic wedding joke that made Lisa Wilkinson cringe
While Lisa doesn’t mind she missed out on an invite, that didn’t mean she wouldn’t be reminded about it in a very awkward live TV moment.
While Lisa Wilkinson doesn’t seem to mind she missed out on an invite to Karl Stefanovic’s wedding that didn’t mean she wouldn’t be reminded about it in the most awkward way possible.
Wilkinson, who was nothing but gracious when speaking about her former colleague’s wedding on TV the night before, was teased about her lack of an invite by co-host Peter Helliar on Monday night’s episode of The Project.
During an interview with an electrician working in Antarctica who was also named Lisa Wilkinson, Helliar piped up to ask the woman if she had ever received mail meant for her more famous namesake.
“Lisa Wilkinson I’m just asking this question, just for a mate. You didn’t happen to receive a wedding invite for Karl Stefanovic’s wedding by any chance, did you?” Helliar asked the electrician.
Surprised, Project host Wilkinson cringed with shock and turned her head away from the camera, appearing to take a few moments to compose herself.
“One got lost in the mail, we’re trying to work out where it’s gone to,” Helliar continued, as both Wilkinsons dissolved into laughter.
While electrician Wilkinson asked Helliar not “to get me in the middle of this,” she did admit to getting some of the journalist’s mail when she quit the Today show for The Project in 2017.
“You think there’s trouble now, you imagine at the time with all the Lisa Wilkinson stuff I was getting stuff in my inbox everyday,” she revealed.
“My apologies Lisa, we need to swap email addresses I think … we need to talk, we definitely need to talk,” The Project host replied.
“We’d love you to talk, we just need to send a camera,” Waleed Aly quipped.
Wilkinson (the journalist, not the electrician) was a surprise omission from Stefanovic and Yarbrough’s star-studded guest list of almost 200.
“I have not been invited,” Wilkinson told The Daily Telegraph last month.

Stefanovic, 44, married shoe designer Jasmine Yarbrough, 34, in a star-studded three-day extravaganza in Cabo, Mexico over the weekend.
The TV host has been targeted by a barrage of bad press since his relationship with Yarbrough went public in 2016 — just a few months after his split from ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn, the mother of his three children, River, 12, Ava, 13, and Jackson, 19.
Wilkinson weighed in on her former Today co-star’s wedding after a package of their wedding went to air on The Sunday Project last night.
“It’s lovely to see. They look very happy,” she said.
“I think they’ve had a couple of rough years. And it’ll be nice to get on with the rest of their lives. Together.”
The groom spoke to the Telegraph after his nuptials, gushing that his new wife Yarbrough had “endured beyond hardship” to be with him.
“When everyone has had their say as to why she is with me, she has gone beyond it,” he told the publication.
“And really, why would you be with me with the s**tstorm that comes with me? It has been very hard … Jas is my rock. I don’t go on without her. She is the rock of us as a couple.”
The couple were wed in a sunset ceremony outside the chapel in the One&Only Palmilla Resort in front of nearly 200 guests, before moving down to the beach for a lavish reception.
According to the Sydney Morning Herald, Stefanovic became emotional during his wedding speech, in which he referenced the enormous media attention and pressures the couple had faced throughout their relationship.
“Jasmine, you have taken on enormous stress with me, you have taken on another family, media and social criticism that would break most — you’ve weathered it,” he said.
“You stand tall, you stand strong, you stand up and keep walking.
“Everyone needs a Jasmine in their life … if they have it they’re the luckiest people in the world.
“You are my rock, you are my saviour, you put me back together. I’m a better person because of you, a better friend, a better dad — tonight I celebrate and toast you Jasmine my wife.”
