Cass Thorburn shares cryptic message as Karl and Jasmine tie the knot
As newlyweds Karl Stefanovic and Jasmine Yarbrough shared a kiss outside a Mexican chapel, his ex-wife took to social media with some interesting words.
As newlyweds Karl Stefanovic and Jasmine Yarbrough sealed their vows with a kiss outside a Mexican chapel — surrounded by a glitzy circle of friends and family — his ex-wife Cassandra Thorburn had a very cryptic message.
Taking to Instagram at the same time as the first photos surfaced of the happy couple posing outside the One&Only Chapel at Palmilla Resort in Los Cabos, the children’s author revealed she was reading The Handmaid’s Tale, declaring it a “good book” for her “journey”.
Margaret Atwood’s novel — now a wildly popular TV series — tells the incredibly dark story of Offred, who is struggling to survive within a fundamentalist regime that treats women as property of the state.
Before their split in 2016, Cassandra Thorburn and Stefanovic — who share three children — were together for 21 years. Just a few months on from their breakup, the 44-year-old Today host began dating shoe designer Yarbrough, who is 10 years his junior.
Last year, Thorburn admitted she had found herself in a dark place after the breakdown of their marriage, telling Woman’s Day “it was like someone had died”.
The timing of the post certainly wasn’t lost on Thorburn’s followers, who shared their positive thoughts and messages on what is undoubtedly a difficult day.
“I’m so proud of you! Finally stepping out from someone’s shadow and becoming whole again! You have an army of supporters!” one user wrote.
“Don’t know you Cassie, but thinking of you this weekend. Stay strong,” wrote another.
“I’m a complete stranger, yet my heart is hurting for you … I know you’re a strong beautiful woman whom we should all look up to.”
Thorburn flew out of Sydney on Thursday to escape the media glare as Stefanovic and Yarbrough headed to Mexico for their wedding.
Wearing a shirt emblazoned with the word ‘NEVER’, the journalist cut a solitary figure as she checked her phone and made a call while waiting to board a Virgin Australia flight.
Cassandra was seen with her brother, Ashley Thorburn, returning to Sydney airport yesterday around one hour after her ex-husband had tied the knot.
Stefanovic and Yarbrough are now officially man and wife after saying their “I dos” outside a stunning chapel in Mexico at sunset on Saturday night (local time).
The bride, 34, wore a bespoke Jess Andreatta gown with a daringly short hemline and detachable skirt, which featured soft blush tulle undertones and hand-sewn Aztec motifs beaded over lace to fit with the Mexican setting.
Her seven (seven!) bridesmaids — including high school friends Sarah Johnson, Sophie Pentland, Jimilla Houghton, Stoj Bulic, and Georgie Fleming, sister Jade Yarbrough and business partner Tamie Ingham — wore black floor-length dresses by Rachel Gilbert.
Today host Stefanovic, 44, looked dapper in a white blazer, white shirt and black pants by Tom Ford, while his seven groomsmen were dressed in black.
