Jackie O reveals what she’s looking for in a man

It is no secret that Jackie O is back on the dating scene and she’s finally spilt what she is looking for in a man... and who she is dating.

Jackie O Henderson has finally started dating again after over a decade on the bench, and she has revealed what she is looking for in a man.

For someone who spends hours on the airwaves daily on Sydney’s number one breakfast show, it sounds silly to describe Jackie as private, but she is.

The radio icon still hasn’t spoken about her divorce from Lee Henderson in 2018.

They share a 12-year-old daughter, Kitty, and Jackie managed to maintain a healthy amount of unknown about why the two parted ways.

There was no ugly custody battle or pointed Instagram posts, and she’s never blurted out a bad word about him – no matter how long she spends on air.

Instead, the two parted ways, and Jackie managed to have the most boring divorce ever. It helped that she didn’t start dating again immediately after – there was simply nothing the public could speculate about.

Even when asked about the demise of her former relationships, she remains self-reflective rather than bitter.

“Sometimes it just doesn’t work out. The people I’ve had big relationships with, I have a very solid friendship with them now, and I admire the men I’ve been in a long-term relationship with,” she tells news.com.au.

Sure, she can look back and see the relationships were flawed.

“If they were super healthy, they would have lasted. There’s an element of past relationships being unhealthy at times.”

Even then she’s quick to put some of the blame back on herself. You get the vibe that she’s read a few books, been to therapy, and maybe even treated herself to a wanky retreat in Byron Bay to get to this kind of generous headspace.

“It is easy to look back on a relationship and think that it was them. But if you can look at yourself objectively - you can see the part you play in it,” she points out.

These kind of self revelations got her back into the space to date.

Jackie left a decade in-between drinks, and now, just like any woman in her 40s who is looking for modern-day romance, she’s downloaded Hinge.

She’s swiping and scanning like the rest of us, hoping to find someone decent but there’s a difference in her approach this time.

“You have to speak your truth even if it is uncomfortable. Sometimes as women, we want to appear that we are the easy breezy girls.

“In the past, I’ve gone into relationships and acted like that, and I think that is one of the reasons they didn’t work out. I think being able to be very honest with each other is really important.”

Understanding what went wrong has helped her know what she wants in Mr Right.

“I want an honest, deep, open, beautiful relationship full of respect and understanding.”

What does that man look like?

Jackie’s quick to point out that she isn’t shallow, and isn’t fussed about how someone looks or what job they have.

She doesn’t care if they are famous or just an ordinary guy and she doesn’t even care if they are rich.

Why should she? She’s become a rich man herself and she has the $13.25 million dollar house to prove it.

No, she’s looking for substance. She even wrote down a checklist to help determine what she wants in a man.

“Ninety-nine per cent of the checklist was characteristics - when it came to physical, there was hardly anything I put in there,” she explains.

But there was something?

“I did have height in there! 5′11 and above is a preference, but I think my limit on Hinge was like 5’9.”

“Then I want to find someone that is into being healthy, but they don’t have to have abs … I don’t care about that.”

For Jackie, it isn’t about the physical. It’s about finding someone she can share things with. When I ask what she is looking for emotionally she’s more reluctant to share but she does kindly relent.

“Open, honest, physical, touch, intimacy and support,” she lists.

So what is it like to date as a famous woman in Sydney?

Well, firstly it isn’t easy.

She finds that if she’s out in public, the only guys that approach her are drunk and that is how she found herself on the apps to begin with.

Secondly if she does go on a date that isn’t simple either. She needs to find somewhere low-key but still nice.

On Hinge, she admits that she doesn’t fire off the first message and isn’t sliding into anyone’s messages.

“I’m really bad; I don’t make the first move.”

It isn’t because she’s figured out what a catch she is and decided she doesn’t need to bother with any groundwork. Instead, she has the same fears we all have that if a guy matches with you, it doesn’t mean he is super invested.

“I tend to wait and see because they are probably talking to a 100 girls right now, so you might just be one they sent a ‘like.’ to.”

No surprises, but men have sought Jackie out, and she’s been out on dates with two different men.

So was it a culture shock dating again in 2023?

“I’ve been really lucky, I’ve only done two, and both have been so lovely.”

She remains coy about how the dates went but but when prodded admits there was one guy that she saw again.

“I have gone on more than one date with one of them.”

She insists she’s only cagey out of respect for the people she’s dating.

“The reason I get private is not because of me. It is always them. I don’t feel like it is fair that it is okay to critique a date on air.

“Plus, people would give me a wide berth if I started discussing every date I’ve been on. I’m mindful there are two people in this scenario,” she points out.

There might be two people when it comes to dating but it pretty clear Jackie is the star of any relationship.
