Hollywood actress and former soap star Isla Fisher says returning to live Australia with her family has felt “magical” since making the move last year.

The Perth-raised star graces the cover of Marie Claire’s June edition, in which she opens up about the move to Sydney with her husband, Sacha Baron-Cohen and three kids.

It happens to be where the couple first met in 2002, with Baron Cohen once telling The New York Times they bonded over “taking the mick” out of other guests at a swanky showbiz party.

The couple will celebrate 20 years of marriage next year, with Fisher telling the publication of their “secret” to a long-lasting marriage: “I wish I had an answer. I’m very lucky to have met him,” adding: “I definitely think humour helps.”

Fisher and Baron Cohen enrolled their children at a Sydney school last year, with the Wedding Crashers star telling Marie Claire keeping her children’s lives private is of great importance to her.

“I think all parents are trying to protect their kids, especially in the social media age,” she explained.

“I want our children to have a normal childhood – being able to play outside without pressure or scrutiny. All kids have the right to just be kids, and I would never sell a film or magazine by speaking about (mine). Motherhood is actually my favourite topic – but I keep it private.

Of the move to Sydney, Fisher said: “I feel like I can be myself in Australia.

“I love the people. I love the colours and the sights and the taste and the smells. And there’s something about being home which is just … it feels very magical.

“I miss it so much when I’m away and I have a very Australian sensibility. Whenever I meet another Aussie, I always think, ‘Oh my gosh, we’re twins!’”

She’s certainly not the only big star who’s embracing the Aussie way of life at the moment, with Matt Damon, Natalie Portman, and Idris Elba among the celebrities currently in the country.

When asked about the influx of Hollywood actors to our shores in recent months, Fisher said her famous pals have been struck by the Australian work ethic.

“Hollywood actors just feel so lucky to be in Australia right now,” she said.

“Americans always comment on how hardworking Aussie crews are. The government and people handled COVID brilliantly, and Australia is reaping the benefits of that now.”

As well as enjoying the sense of safety being in Australia brings, Fisher has managed to catch up with some of her old Home And Away co-stars.

Last month, she was pictured grabbing a coffee with former soap star Chris Hemsworth, which had some fans wondering whether or not they could be working on a new project together.

Back in February while celebrating her 45th birthday, fans were delighted to see a selfie of Fisher with radio personality Kate Ritchie.

“Still making me giggle like a naughty teenager after all these years … Thank you, Isla,” Ritchie wrote in the caption.

“You are one of the best,” she added, alongside cake and love heart emojis.
