WHAT THE NEWS.COM.AU CHECKOUT TEAM IS LOVING THIS WEEK
Sunbeam Alinea Max 7.5L DiamondForce Air Fryer, $229 at Amazon Australia
”I was always that person who was a bit sceptical of air fryers, but ever since trying out the Sunbeam Alinea Max 7.5L Air Fryer, I am officially an air fryer convert. With a huge window, this is super easy to see how your food is coming along and there is a whole load of settings for different types of foods available via the touchscreen panel which makes it really simple to cook without hunting down a recipe. I recently had to wrangle dinner together in a rush, but still wanted something healthy. Some salmon fillets with lemon, alongside some cut veggies and WHAM — dinner was ready to go in about 20 minutes. I was dumbfounded! Sunbeam make clean-up super easy too, with the removable window panel and cooking tray.” – Jessica Smith, Health & Wellness Writer
The Housemaid by Freida McFadden, $22.99 at Amazon Australia
”Thriller is my favourite kind of genre to read, so when I saw some buzz online about this new book titled The Housemaid — it’s actually being turned into a movie starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried — I knew I had to jump on it. And the hype is very well deserved. This is a book that I could not stop reading, I was completely hooked and invested into all of the characters. The storyline is easy to follow, and who doesn’t love a good plot twist at the end to make you completely change on your mind on a character you once loved — and hated.” – Marina Tatas, Shopping Writer
KAWS + Warhol collaboration, prices starting from $19.90 at Uniqlo
”Normally when it comes to clothes I like to pick options which don’t have large prints or logos, but Uniqlo’s latest collection has some fun designs and it’s worth exploring. The KAWS + Warhol collab has been out for a few months now, and incorporates the KAWS characters alongside some of Andy Warhol’s most recognisable images. It ties in with the KAWS + Warhol exhibition in the US and the capsule collection includes T-shirts, sweatshirts, coach jackets, socks, tote bags, a kid’s range and there’s even an art book. Personally, I’ve gone for a sweatshirt, tracksuit pants, socks and a T-shirt, all of which are made from super comfy material, and I also like how the prints are not too over the top. Like with other Uniqlo items it’s also really well priced, so you’re able to put together a full outfit without breaking the bank.” – Troy Nankervis, Shopping Writer
Casual Quilted Tote Bag – Black, $35 at Target Australia
”I’m always on the lookout for the perfect work bag – and this week I found it! I had the opportunity to try out the casual quilted tote bag from Target (after prising it out of the hands of my two teenage daughters, and buying two more) and it was a total hit. I love a tote and this one is incredibly roomy with plenty of space for my computer, lunch, drink bottle, make-up bag, phone and everything else I need during the day. It’s made of soft quilted fabric, so comfy and light to carry, either by thick handles or the detachable shoulder strap. It actually feels lighter than my previous work tote, even though I’m carrying the same amount of stuff. I love that it has a zippered closure so everything is safe and sound. And best of all, it looks super stylish. Love it!” – Susannah Hardy, Partnerships Writer
Facial Oil, $79 at Mx Skincare
”I don’t normally love a face oil in my skincare routine, but when this Aussie-made pick landed on my desk, I decided to give it a go — and I am so glad that I did. It’s formulated with vitamins A, C and Q10, plus a whole bunch of omega 3 fatty acids to really nourish and protect the skin. One thing I really love is how fast it absorbs and how it makes my skin feel — it doesn’t feel too oily, it feels like my skin drinks this oil up pretty instantly. Perfect for those looking to pair back their skincare routine and looking for something to really nourish and soothe an impaired skin barrier.” – Marina Tatas, Shopping Writer
Kérastase Première 123 Bundle, $164 at Adore Beauty
”The Kerastase Premiere shampoo and conditioner, along with the whole Premiere range including the Pre-Shampoo Treatment and Masque has become my whole hair routine lately, and I have been absolutely loving it. I have longer, thick hair that’s been at the hands of heat and colour damage for years, so split ends are a norm. This shampoo and conditioner, along with the Kerastase Premier Huile Gloss Intensive Shine Repairing Oil have been a life saver. I wash my hair now once to twice a week and one shampoo is enough to have my hair feeling thoroughly cleaned and nourished. I alternate between the Masque and conditioner as my step 2, and am always left feeling like my hair is smooth and less frizzy. The hair oil I have a special affinity for, and use it almost every day on my lengths and ends, where I’ve been noticing a real difference.” – Jessica Smith, Health & Wellness Writer
Stokke YOYO3 Stroller – Black, $849.95 at The Memo
“I’ve been eyeing the YOYO for ages after being told by basically every mum who owns one how much they love it. Now in its third iteration the YOYO3 has been given some very nice upgrades — and I’m all here for it. The suspension is amazing —–the best of any travel pram I’ve used — and has tackled the bumps and cracks of Sydney’s Inner West pavements like a champ. I love the two storage compartments at the back for all my personal belongings and the fact that you can change the colourways as well as take off all the material when you need to give it a wash and refresh (something neither of my previous travel prams were able to do!). I can definitely see what all the fuss is about!” – Stephanie Yip, Travel Writer
Ted Baker Haarvin Chronograph Green Leather Watch, $290 at The Iconic
”Christmas is around the corner and a watch is a perfect gift idea for someone special in your life, or you could also treat yourself too. This Ted Baker Haarvin Chronograph Green Leather Watch is the latest in the collection, and blends together modern design motifs, with a nod to the past. Watches give you a chance to show off some personal style, and I love the all-green look, which includes a green leather strap, and it’s stainless steel casing is also 50 metres water resistant, making it suitable for a dip in the ocean, or a hike outdoors. This one is also a great option if you’re going for a more formal look too. I’m really looking forward to wearing this watch as the weather warms up and I’m out and about.” – Troy Nankervis, Shopping Writer
Frama Tea Towel Set – Two Pack, $34.99 at Sheridan
”Sheridan obviously make fantastic linen, we all know that. But what you might not know is that right now they’re giving away free canisters of Mayde Tea with every tea towel purchase for members. (You can sign up for free). I recently received a pair of tea towels, which are soft and lovely and look fantastic hanging off in my kitchen, but what really surprised me was how serious Sheridan were about including the bonus Mayde Tea. This isn’t just a few individually wrapped tea bags, friends. This is a giant glass jar of loose leaf tea that tastes absolutely divine. Licorice and peppermint flavours make it the perfect herbal tea to relax after a long day, and the jam-packed value means I don’t even need to go easy on the spoonfuls of tea leaves into the teapot. The bundle pack also came beautifully wrapped in the mail, so I would highly recommend for a Christmas gift!” – Jessica Smith, Health & Wellness Writer
Camera Case – Classic, $130.99 at Casetify
”If you’re going to be spending a decent chunk of money on a new smartphone, you want to make sure you’re protecting your investment, which is where this Casetify iPhone 16 Pro case has really stepped up to deliver. It’s made from a high quality material that’s also compatible with Apple’s MagSafe wireless charging accessories, plus there’s a handy lifted camera ring and built in stand if you’re looking to take the perfect selfie, or if you’re watching reels and clips on your social feeds It can survive drops up to 6.6 feet which is really impressive, and so far I haven’t noticed any disruptions to using any of the camera buttons. It’s a big investment at more than $130, however I reckon that’s a great price to pay for peace of mind if you want to protect your iPhone. Definitely worth the money!” – Troy Nankvervis, Shopping Writer
Days at the Morisaki Bookshop by Satoshi Yagisawa, $24.99 at Amazon Australia
“If you’ve been on BookTok at all you’ve probably seen this book at least once or twice. Translated from Japanese, the novel tells the story of 25 year old Takako who moves into the tiny room above her uncle’s bookshop after going through a break-up. The author, Satoshi Yagisawa, beautifully takes the reader on a journey about new beginnings, human connections and the joys of reading. The writing style was simple (perhaps in part because it was originally written in Japanese and the translation might have lost some of the nuance) and easy to follow and overall I found the book and its characters sweet and charming. There were also so many lines in the book that I took note of when reading. A favourite being the page included in the picture above when the main character starts to discover the power of human connection in reading books, and second hand books in particular. (Although it is a little bit ironic that I was reading this on my Kobo). Another favourite line I highlighted when reading was: “The short version is I wanted to see the whole world for myself. I wanted to see the whole range of possibilities. Your life is yours. It doesn’t belong to anyone else. I wanted to know what it would mean to live life on my own terms.” – Philippa Tonkin, Shopping Writer
Strawberries & Cream Foaming Body Wash, $20 at Sundae Body
“I think my whole family might be obsessed with Sundae Body’s cream foaming body wash at this rate. (The evidence being, my nearly empty can.) Not only does it smell amazing, but it adds such an unexpected level of fun to a regular shower routine. Identical to a can of whipped cream, the shower foam can be applied into your hand first or directly onto the skin. The sweet strawberry smells fills the whole bathroom, which I love, and my skin always feels so much smoother and softer after using this, as opposed to regular shower gel.” – Jessica Smith, Health & Wellness Writer
Linen Dreams 350/500/700GSM All Size Australian Wool Quilt, $64 at Amazon Australia
”We recently bought this doona in a double for our 13-year-old daughter – and my husband and I loved it so much that we immediately ordered the queen for us. And it has been a huge success. Filled with 100 per cent Australian wool, it’s warm and cosy yet lightweight and breathable. I’m a hot sleeper and most doonas generally leave me overheated and drenched in sweat. However I’ve found this doona (500 GSM) very comfy despite the fact we’re well into spring. Containing wool instead of down, it doesn’t all bunch down one end, so you always have an even coverage. The cover is silky smooth with a pretty quilted design, so you don’t really need a cover, but I always prefer to put one on. Best of all, it’s completely machine-washable so it’s easy to clean if I spill my weekend morning coffee!” – Susannah Hardy, Partnerships Writer
