WHAT THE NEWS.COM.AU CHECKOUT TEAM IS LOVING THIS WEEK
Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara, $48 at Charlotte Tilbury
“I think I just found my new holy grail mascara. We all know everything Charlotte Tilbury touches turns to gold – and this new mascara is no exception.
The new volumising mascara offers unique lash vinyl-black wrap tech and an ultra-curved lash styler brush to really get into every nook and cranny to lift and lengthen the lashes.
The formulation is also smudge-proof, flake-proof and sweat-proof and holds in my lashes all day long. Plus I love the gorgeous printed tube!” – Marina Tatas, Shopping Writer
Perfume Atomiser Bottle, $12.79 (down from $15.99 at Amazon Australia
“I was given this perfume atomiser for Mother’s Day this year and I have to say, it’s one of the handiest devices I’ve seen in a while. I wasn’t sure about it at first as most perfume bottles have a spray nozzle that can’t be opened. How would I get perfume into an atomiser? So, I pretended to be excited, as you do. However, I soon realised that this atomiser has a unique pump system for filling up with perfume – and then I got really excited. You simply remove the top spray part of your perfume bottle, pull the outside part of the atomiser off, place it on top of the perfume nozzle and pump up and down until the atomiser is full. Genius! It’s also sleek and small, the ideal size for my handbag. And great for going on holidays when you don’t want to pack an entire perfume bottle. I often forget to put perfume on in the mornings, but now I always have it at the ready. Well done to my husband for finding it on Amazon! The perfect (and budget friendly) beauty accessory.” – Susannah Hardy, Partnerships Writer
Dermal Therapy Very Rough Hands, $9.99 at Amazon Australia
“Dermal Therapy is like the Tiger Balm or Windex of our generation (if you know, you know). Their entire range can fix pretty much anything, but this is my most repurchased and absolute go-to product. My hands feel and look perpetually dry and tight, but the aptly named Very Rough Hands cream works really quickly and leaves my hands feeling moisturised and soft. It’s long lasting, not greasy and a little goes a long way, which is a bonus considering it’s already super affordable. And while it doesn’t have the typical pretty packaging, nothing is cuter than something that actually works. “ – Tahnee-Jae Lopez-Vito, Shopping Writer
Sleep A20 | Next-Level Sleep Earbuds with Enhanced Comfort, $259 at Soundcore
“I’m the sort of person who takes ages to sleep. I’ll lie in bed, overthinking, turn my phone on to answer a question, roll over, think about my bladder, wander to the toilet etc. So when I heard about these sleep earbuds I thought, okay, let’s give them a go and boy, was I impressed. I’ve never heard of something so sophisticated for sleep! They come with an entire library of eartips and earwings for a perfect fit that doesn’t fall out, is comfortable for side sleepers and seals tightly to reduce noise. While I’ve found they won’t completely block out snoring, they managed to block out background noise to the point where I couldn’t hear my colleagues chatting behind me with them in. Winning. But what really makes them stand out is the “sleep mode”. This activates a series of white noise tracks to help you sleep (a massive help for overthinkers like me!). There’s even a special sensor to track your sleep using the Soundcore app. I haven’t used this extensively yet but I’m keen to see how my sleep patterns progress over time.” – Stephanie Yip, Travel Writer
Colette Boat Neck Mesh Top, $69 at Meshki
Matching with the: Jacqueline Pleated Wide Leg Pants, $139 at Meshki
”Meshki have just dropped their latest collection and it’s full of 90s / 00s fashion pieces that feel luxe but don’t cost a bomb. Complete with capri pants, square neck tops and dresses you can wear from day to night, I have to say ‘Archive’ is hands down my favourite collection they’ve ever released. The pièce de résistance though has to be this maroon set (Jacqueline pants & Colette top). I posted this photo to my Instagram story recently and was bombarded with DM’s asking for the details. So here it is, the matching set you didn’t know you needed.” – Claudia Coy, Social Media Producer
Advanced Magnesium+ Powder, $34.99 at JS Health Vitamins
“I have always been a huge fan of magnesium to help relax the muscles before bed, particularly while I’m on my period. But why are magnesium tablets always just shy of the size of a watermelon? When JS Health Vitamins released a magnesium powder, I was excited to try an alternative to the huge tablet form magnesium I had always stuck to. To say it exceeded expectations is an understatement. For starters, when mixed with water, this magnesium drink is genuinely better than most cordials I’ve tried. Raspberry lemonade flavoured, this scrumptious little night-time beverage is something I look forward to most days, and sometimes need to hold myself back from just drinking it for the taste whenever I like. According to JS Health Vitamins founder Jessica Sepel, magnesium in powder form also absorbs better into the body than tablets, so that’s a win too. This delicious drink is now a staple in my before-bed routine.” – Jessica Smith, Health & Wellness Writer
Nivea Micellar Water, $13.99 at Priceline
“My favourite lazy girl beauty hack is to use micellar water as a cleanser. Yep that’s right: micellar water will do just as well for a light, quick cleanse. So on days when I’m feeling like I simply cannot be bothered with the whole rigmarole of washing my facing, I’ll grab my reusable pad and give it a wipe with micellar water.
My current fave is Nivea’s new range of micellar water. The beloved affordable beauty brand has released new and improved formulas that target different skin types and concerns: Brightening, Regenerating, Soothing, and Caring. All of them deeply cleanse your skin, with added skincare benefits depending on your needs. I’m currently using the Regenerating one that’s infused with five per cent serum (panthenol and squalene) as my skin barrier has been severely impaired lately. It’s been excellent in removing my daily makeup while being gentle on my skin but still leaving it soft and clean. Love!”
Caudalie VinoHydra Gel Moisturiser, $52 at Sephora
“My skin has never felt plumper, dewier or more hydrated than when I’ve been using this Caudalie Vinohydra Gel Moisturizer. I have combination skin (oily around the T-Zone) and this little tube of gel goodness leaves my skin feeling soft, smooth and ready for the day. It’s also really lightweight and absorbs quickly so you don’t feel like you’re walking around with a sheet mask on (like some heavy duty moisturisers can make you feel). It also promises to help with ‘dryness and dullness’ and I’ve got to say … my skin IS looking particularly bright since using it.” – Claudia Coy, Social Media Producer
Hydralyte Orange Flavoured Electrolyte 20 Effervescent Tablets, $17 at Priceline
“Hydralyte has been a game changer. I’ve been hitting the gym at odd hours before and after work, which also includes cycling to work, and Hydralyte has really helped me go the distance, quite literally by keeping my hydrated and feeling my best. The tablets, which dissolve in water, help with replacing electrolytes after intense workouts. The flavours are great, my favourite one is Orange, and the 20 tablet tube is great value and compact enough to throw in your work bag, or bathroom cabinet (or both). Hydralyte is a bit like giving your body a cheat code to keep to performing at your peak. I highly recommend it.” – Troy Nankervis, Shopping Writer
Rare Beauty Find Comfort Gentle Exfoliating Body Wash, $42 at Sephora
”This exfoliating body wash from Selena Gomez’ Rare Beauty is the perfect, gentle wash for every day. I’ve been using it for over a month now and I love how it leaves my skin feeling so soft but without any irritation that often comes from harsh exfoliants. The wash itself features supre tiny bits made from plant-derived konjac jelly that feel so nice rubbing into the skin. Plus, a little goes a long way so you won’t need to restock often.” – Philippa Tonkin, Shopping Writer
”Promising to be ideal for those looking to repair their skin barrier, I was immediately hooked when this face moisturiser landed on my desk. Formulated with squalene, niacinamide and more, this serum-cream hybrid provides your skin with deep hydration and so many healing benefits. Every time I apply this at night, when I wake up in the morning, my complexion looks so even and radiant – I’m obsessed!” – Marina Tatas, Shopping Writer
Raincoat, $85 (down from $159) at Kikki K
“The recent rain in Sydney has been quite a downer but this brightly coloured raincoat from Kikki. K has been a definite mood lifter. And it works a charm against the rainfall. I got it in a medium for the option to layer underneath but honestly it’s quite large and roomy and I would have been fine opting for my standard size small. This “evergreen” colourway is absolutely gorgeous (they have poppy designs similar to what you’d find at Gorman, too) and there’s a roomy hood to keep your noggin dry. I love the double zipper and button enclosure for added coverage and the chic snap buttons on the cuffs for a snug fit. It’s my favourite – and most beautiful – raincoat yet.” – Stephanie Yip, Travel Writer
Issey Miyake Le Sel d’Issey EDT, $159 at Myer
”If you’re after a fresh cologne for spring and summer, Issey Miyake’s Le Sel d’Issey EDT is a winner. I’ve been wearing this one to work the last couple of weeks and it’s fresh and light, with woody notes that aren’t overpowering. There are touches of cedarwood, ginger and sea salt which leaves a lovely scent that’s subtle but lasts the whole day. I also love the shape of the bottle, which is quite simple and sophisticated, plus it’s been designed by French perfumer Quentin Bisch, who also worked on Jean Paul Gaultier’s La Belle and Le Beau, and Paco Rabanne’s 1 Million Parfum. A touch of class for the Aussie summer.” – Troy Nankevis, Shopping Writer
Sukin Aquaboost 3D Hyaluronic Acid Hydration Mist, $10.99 (down from $22) at Chemist Warehouse
”I’ve been loving this hyaluronic acid hydration mist by Sukin. Part of their new Aquaboost range, this product is a burst of hydration, whenever you need it throughout your day. I keep this on my work desk for a little spritz whenever my skin is feeling on the dryer side, or I just need a little reviver throughout the day. It always leaves my skin feeling fresh and topped up with hydration, and it leaves me feeling like I’ve really got my skin taken care of, 24/7.” – Jessica Smith, Health & Wellness Writer
Monat Revive Shampoo and Volume Revitalise Conditioner, $189 at Amazon
“I’m super picky with my shampoo and conditioners as I find many of them are too heavy on my fine hair and weigh it down. But I’ve found my new favourite combo with Monat’s Voluminizing Revive range. Not only does it wash well getting rid of dirt and oil (what more can you ask for from a shampoo?), the shampoo and conditioner duo gives life to flat, fine hair like mine. My hair always feels and looks soft and shiny after using the products and most importantly, there’s volume and body to it. No more flat, lifeless hair! Big fan.”
