As a sex writer with more toys under her bed than she knows what to do with, the thought that there’s a sex accessory out there that I haven’t yet tried is mind-blowing (and not in the good way). Especially when I now tell you that this is the product you didn’t know you needed.
You see, my world has been rocked by this one game-changing component. Because after years of puddled pools and suspicious stains in the middle of my sheets, my sex life has been given a bedroom makeover.
Enter the Splash Banket – the frequently sold-out solution to all the gorgeous mess that is great sex. Because this isn’t Hollywood and real people leave real wrecks in their wakes.
Which is exactly how the product’s founder found herself designing a fix to her good fortune.
“I created the Splash Blanket as a matter of necessity!” Rosie Rees, who also owns intimate wellness brand Yoni Pleasure Palace, tells news.com.au checkout.
“I had just started dating a woman in 2019 and we were exploring sexually when she started squirting for the first time, which was exciting but also inconvenient sleeping in a wet spot every night.
“We were going through so many towels and sheets and using kids bed wetting sheets – which is not the sexiest statement in the bedroom – so I did what I do best and created a product that didn’t exist on the market.”

Hold up, what’s squirting?
Squirting is one of those great feminine mysteries. It’s essentially the release of liquid from the vagina, although even the experts can’t quite pinpoint exactly what it’s made up of or where it comes from. But we’ve got plenty of questions about it.
“I think there’s a lot of intrigue and curiosity about squirting, which is one of the most common things I get asked about,” Alice Child, a somatic sexologist tells news.com.au checkout.
“It is what people often see in porn and what the Splash Blanket is so great for because there can be a great quantity of fluid that can come out, although it’s very different for everyone, and everyone’s bodies are slightly different.”
It also depends on how hydrated you are and how full your bladder is, but squirting can contain tens to hundreds of millilitres of liquid. “Although in a longer session, even more could come out,” Child explains.
And how does it occur? Well you need all the right moves. “Essentially it happens with high levels of arousal when you combine really good clitoral stimulation with really good and intense G-spot stimulation and then often with pressure on the pubic bone as well,” the sexologist says. “And then it can lead to a really pleasurable orgasmic release.”
Which is why you need a Splash Blanket
So with Rees sick and tired of middle-of-the-night housework, the reusable, eco-friendly, cosy and comfortable, waterproof blanket was born and Rosie has never looked back. “Initially I launched them as a “squirt blanket”, however I quickly realised how versatile they were,” she says. “Women were messaging me sharing how they had birthed on the blankets and were using them for free bleeding, as well as for their pets and babies.”
But let’s get back to the juicy stuff, because isn’t that why we’re all here?
Putting the Splash Blanket into action
Fed up with my own constant clean ups and a changing of the sheets, I was more than excited to put this ‘no mess, no fuss’ method to the test. Promising to keep the bedding below fresh and dry during the most passionate of sex sessions, the Splash Blanket offered the titillating thought of not having to spend the night sleeping in the wet patch in the middle of the bed.
So, I booty called my friend with benefits – who has a serious track record of sending me squirting – and got to work on making the bed.
Impressed by its deep ‘Moon Blood’ red colour, I was instantly drawn to my new Splash Blanket that resembled more of a luxury throw than any waterproof product. ‘The OG’ version is thick and plush, with one side made from the brand’s signature smooth micro-velvet fabric and the other sign made of fully hydrophilic sherpa fleece, but still I felt dubious of its absorbent capabilities. Even when it was described as the “ultimate throw for soaking up big spills”. Even when I read that it can hold up to a litre of liquid.
But oh, how wrong I was to doubt this invention, because from date night to the morning after, the Splash Blanket kept up its word and kept on absorbing our multiple spills, leaving no mess behind.
How does it work?
The Splash Blanket is made up of two layers of plush, absorbent fabric that are bonded together with a waterproof layer that’s made out of recycled thermoplastic polyurethane, making it totally water and leak proof.
Yet you can still throw it in a washing machine and dryer afterwards (before getting right back to action).
What I loved about the Splash Blanket
It collects all the fluids all the time
From sweating to squirting, ejaculating to salivating, natural lubrication to period blood and everything in between, the human body is capable of producing a lot of liquid during sex. But never fear, the multifunctional and incredibly versatile Splash Blanket is here to catch it all.
It saved my sheets and any awkwardness
No wet patches in my bed. No suspicious stains on the sheets. And no embarrassment around a messy good time. Just a purely soft, velvety rich, feels-great-against-my-bare-body protective throw that makes sex feel a whole lot fancier.
It’s useful outside of the bedroom too
From mopping up after birth, babies and pets, to cuddling up on the sofa, Splash Blankets have so many purposes they’re really the accessory you need everywhere that’s not the bedroom.
What I didn’t love about the Splash Blanket
I strangely assumed that the Splash Banket would absorb everything and then not feel wet to touch. Which it did. But my dirty date and I just flipped a corner over and kept on going uninterrupted.
Why you need to buy a Splash Blanket
“Many women will not fully let go in the bedroom because they don’t want to make a mess and then have to sleep in a wet spot or change the sheets and do a laundry run in the middle of the night,” explains Rees, who refers to her Splash Blankets as “psychological sex toys”.
“Laying a Splash Blanket down before getting intimate helps put a person’s mind at ease, allowing them to relax, let go and have fun without worrying about the clean up afterwards. Whether it’s for sexy time at home, in a hotel or at a swingers party, our products are all about creating a sense of safety for the people experiencing intimacy.”
