Jo Cummins and Viv Conway were already successful entrepreneurs — Jo owned a personalised cookie business and Viv ran a social media agency.
But a few socially distanced drinks in the driveway during Covid lockdowns made them thirsty to tackle a new business endeavour together: sex toys that normalise female pleasure.
“We’d already known that we wanted to go into business together and we realised there was a huge gap in the sex toy market for something that was well branded and made women feel normal about their purchase,” Cummins and Conway told news.com.au.
They noticed sex toys for vulva owners were perceived as “taboo” and “options for purchasing them involved going into a seedy store or buying them online from a store that had thousands of different products and made it hard to choose”.

So, the two business-minded friends got to work and Girls Get Off, Australia’s pleasure-positive community for vulva owners, was born.
Since launching Girls Get Off has seen huge success and recently released its latest toy, Deedee.
Deedee is a rabbit vibrator that “hits all the spots” for a “jelly-legged experience”.
With nine different modes, features include a ribbed arm for internal stimulation that has a multi-speed thrusting capability, plus it’s waterproof.
Reviews so far have been nothing short of glowing, with happy shoppers raving about the “powerful” vibrator that’s “one of the best toys”.
“Absolutely mind blowing! Run don’t walk because every gal needs one ASAP,” one five star review reads.
‘THE PEOPLE WERE HUNGRY FOR IT’
After a year of researching and building the foundations of the business, Cummins and Conway set a date in March 2021 to launch Girls Get Off along with their first product — Missy Mini , now rebranded as Missy (you can now score the Missy in a limited edition gold hue here). What they didn’t expect was to receive orders before they even officially launched it to the public.
“The moment we knew the brand would be successful was the Friday before we were supposed to launch the following Monday,” they explained. “We put the website live to iron out any issues and got three orders from people we didn’t know.”
High presale numbers were proving “the people were hungry for it” and now, two years later, Girls Get Off has sold over 20,000 units of Missy alone.
MOST POPULAR GIRLS GET OFF SEX TOY
“Missy’s great for beginners, easy to use with a partner and because she’s an external toy, it makes it really unintimidating for those who’ve never tried a toy before,” the business partners said.
Retailing at $206 and boasting over 541 five-star reviews online, the rechargeable Missy (a backup charger is also available) doesn’t function or look like any ordinary clitoris vibrator on the market.
“Missy is smaller, quieter and more powerful,” they explained.
So powerful, in fact, that reviewers have been left shocked by the “mind-blowing” and “unbelievably fast” results — some even experiencing the effect of the “magical” toy after a mere 20 seconds and labelling it the “best purchase ever”.
“I didn’t expect that big O — it was super intense and long. O for outstanding,” one reviewer remarked.
“I had the most intense O ever using Missy for the first time,” another reviewer detailed. “I have used other vibrators but Missy is on another level. Words cannot explain how satisfied I feel.”
A third person wrote: “Holy moly … wow … this little beast, it may be little but it took me from the non-existent O to the ultimate somatic experience in a couple of minutes.”
UNLIKE ANY OTHER ADULT PRODUCTS ON THE MARKET
Aside from its powerful functionality, another standout reason why people gravitate towards investing in Missy and other Girls Get Off products, is because of the stylish and discreet aesthetic.
“All of our products are unintimidating and are designed so they wouldn’t look out of place on your bedside table,” Cummins and Conway said.
Just take the sellout water-based lube Juicee, as an example — it functions just like any vegan and pH-friendly lube should but its subtle and tasteful design almost has it looking like a skincare product you wouldn’t mind keeping out on display.
The same goes for another product in the range, Cleanies. These hypo-allergenic intimate wipes look like a luxe version of typical sanitary wipes and are conveniently wrapped individually, so they’re ready to be used anywhere at any time.
‘WE PRE-SOLD ABOUT 1,000 TOYS’
While Cummins and Conway have been blown away by the feedback from Missy, it was the launch of their second toy Tiff, a dual pleasure vibrator, that really was a ‘pinch me’ moment for the duo.
“We pre-sold about 1,000 toys before customers were even able to see what the toy was,” they recalled. “All the launch imagery showed was a blurred-out toy. The community trusted us to provide something amazing for them.”
Dubbed the “talented overachiever”, Tiff is a pocket-sized toy featuring 11 settings that work internally and externally to ensure it hits all the right spots.
“During the trial phase, one of our testers fell to her knees, the other had to grip to the shower wall for dear life,” the product’s page reads.
If you’re unsure of what toy is right for you (or you’re just after the best deal), you can also shop the bundle packages which include The Good Vibes Online Bundle (Missy and Tiff), The Intro Bundle (original Missy Mini, Cleanies and Juicee) or The Advanced Lover Bundle (Tiff, Cleanies and Juicee). For those looking for more than just a sex toy (or you’re on the hunt for a fun gift for your partner or bestie), you can also shop A Girl’s Guide To Getting Off — a 226-paged adult book that includes in-depth guides, as well as real-life advice from the Girls Get Off community about effective communication skills, intimacy and sex positions. Plus, the limited edition gold range - featuring the popular Missy and pocket-sized Polly - is perfect for gifting (or collecting).
‘PEOPLE ARE BUYINGMORE THAN A SEX TOY WITH US’
The feedback, or what Cummins and Conway call “testi-moan-ials”, from their happy customers is what drives the two to further expand their business and grow their community.
“Hearing from people about how Girls Get Off has changed their sex life never gets old.”
“We’ve had people write in and tell us about how they’ve never been able to orgasm before and have been able to with our toys,” the business partner duo explained. “We had one 78-year-old lady who said her soulmate had passed away five years earlier. She was so happy to have found Missy as she had missed ‘the big-O’ and said she’d love to see her kids’ reactions when they have to clean out her bedside table after she passes.”
THE IMPORTANCE OF A SAFE AND SUPPORTIVE COMMUNITY
In 2022, Cummins and Conway took the opportunity to start their podcast of the same name, in hopes of breaking down the stigma around female sexual wellness — and it seems to be working. “We started the podcast last year and it already has over 84,000 downloads.”
Additionally, they use their Facebook group of 33.8k members and Instagram of 84.5k followers, as safe places people can go to for assistance throughout their pleasure journey, sans any judgment.
“People are buying more than a sex toy when they shop with us. They’re joining a group of supportive women who support each other and who want to level up their pleasure and orgasms.”
With the huge success of Missy and Tiff, the entrepreneurs are excited for the future of Girls Get Off — including the launch of two new toys by the end of July 2023, global expansion and exciting plans for their community.
“Toys are just the beginning and for us, when it comes to normalising pleasure for women, there are some really huge problems that have been swept under the rug and not talked about for years. We’re moving as fast as we can and we can’t wait to help more women.”
