“Having a cock ring on for longer than 20 minutes or over pumping can cause damage to the blood vessels in the penis, which can result in erection issues,” he explained.

He added: “When using certain toys, like prostate massagers, it is important to take things slow, at least initially, because rushing for penetration can cause discomfort and possible pain from tearing the anal mucosa (lining).”

“I would advise you not to surprise your partner with a sex toy if the two of you have never talked about this before,” Cam said. “This can be intimidating and sometimes create feelings of inadequacy in our partner.”

Cam’s advice? “I would talk about sex toys together and specifically mention why you want to introduce them. It could be because you use a toy by yourself and you actually need it to help you orgasm. It could be because you want to experiment more with your partner. It could be because you have always wanted to use toys with them but have felt ashamed to do so. It could be a combination of things. Whatever the reason, talking with them first is the best way to go about it.”
