Even if you don’t own a Nala bra, you’ve probably heard of the bold Aussie underwear brand.

From sending a giant inflatable boob floating down the Yarra River to their recent – and iconic – ‘Sorry To Offend You’ campaign with model Simone Holtznagel designed to challenge the stigma of breastfeeding, Nala isn’t shy to break taboo and make headlines in the process.

But more than that, they’re loud because they back it up. Their viral Support Wirefree Bralette, $59, has sold out an incredible seven times and their products have thousands of rave reviews. That doesn’t happen to a gimmick. But how does the hyped-up product really stack up? And can a bralette really offer support and comfort when you’ve got bigger boobs?

ONE MINUTE REVIEW: NALA SUPPORT WIREFREE BRALETTE

DOES NALA CATER FOR ALL BRA SIZES?

As a big busted person, bras have never been my favourite item of clothing to shop for. Like bikinis or jeans (if you know, you know), the experience has largely left me feeling insecure or dejected, forced to leave with the dowdy or boring looking bra and paying minimum $70-$100 for the privilege.

Over the years, I’ve found one or two retailers that offered reprieve. But even then, I have never, ever been able to order a bra online without trying it on first. Until Nala.

Launched in late 2022 and offering sizing from 8DD to 26E, they promise something for almost everyone. I’d seen the brand all over Instagram and had nearly added to cart several times. But after finally taking the plunge and trying their Nala Support Wirefree Bra, my only regret is I didn’t do it earlier.

HOW DOES THE NALA SUPPORT WIREFREE BRALETTE FIT?

Thanks to previous bra fitting sessions, I knew I was a 10E. But even if I didn’t, Nala’s revolutionary Nala Fit Guide allows you to identify bodies and boobs that look like yours to help select the best fit and style and order with confidence.

I was overwhelmed – in the best way – at the range of colours available. As well as your basic black, white or nude (or ‘Desert Dust’ as the brand prefers to call it), there’s also Lipgloss candy pink, Cherry Jam red and more. I went for Licorice Black and Cotton Candy, for a paler neutral that also felt a little special.

I felt the difference immediately. The fit was great, offering the lift of a bra with the comfort of a bralette. However, the biggest endorsement came as I realised what was missing – the nagging desire at the end of the day to race home and take it off. The dull feeling of slight discomfort was non-existent. In fact, I hadn’t even thought about the fact I was actually wearing a bra since I had put it on in the morning.

This feeling continued when I actually did take it off and noticed I didn’t have even the faintest marks or impressions on the straps or the waistband.

HOW DOES THE NALA SUPPORT WIREFREE BRALETTE WORK?

Expertly designed and constructed, it feels like a bralette-bra hybrid.

Why is this such a big deal? This is my first bralette. As a 10E, it never felt like a category open to me. However Nala have made the impossible (a bralette for big boobs! That’s not only stylish but supportive too!) not just possible but a reality.

The magic lies in its design, thanks to the refreshing updates on 100 years worth of lingerie expertise the brand has tapped into. Think thick but not ugly straps and waistband, cleverly hidden elastic, fully lined and supportive cups, and three row hooks for extra back adjustment. The mesh cut-out also elevates it from ordinary without compromising on any functionality.

It’s also made from the brand’s sustainable buttery bio-based fabric (85% bio-based nylon and 15% elastane) created using regenerative sources like corn.

The result? Genuine lift and support without the strain on your shoulders. I loved that it boosted cleavage without being “too much”, keeping you secure rather than spilling out.

And the many reviews, from women of all ages, only emphasise all of this. “Best Bra EVER. Hands down best bra I’ve ever worn. I am a 16E and I don’t even feel like I’m wearing a bra,” wrote Alicia, while Kathryn, raved “SO comfortable. I am an older woman with DD breasts and wasn’t sure these bras would give me the support I need. Honestly, they are amazing!!”

My only comment on the shift to a bralette would be that it does mean the sculpting takes the lead from your natural shape, rather than the uniform roundness/smoothing of a more traditional t-shirt bra. Not a negative by any means, but worth being aware of.

DOES THE BRA LIVE UP TO THE HYPE?

The stylish design, unassuming under your clothes, is worth showing off too. My black version was the perfect piece under a black sheer top for going out - secure yet still a little sexy.

The bra has quickly become my daily go-to. I’ve worn them to work, on an evening out as part of my outfit, and on a casual Sunday running errands. Talk about versatile.

I’m a skeptical person when it comes to viral things that feel too good to be true, but this bra not only lives up to its hype but genuinely exceeds it.

WHO CREATED NALA?

Co-founder Chloe De Winter, working alongside husband Phil, first had the idea for Nala during the pandemic after searching for underwear that was comfortable, affordable and didn’t feel like its advertising was stuck in the ‘90s.

Their mission? Create wildly better underwear that looks good from every angle.

With a range of underwear tops and bottom with sustainability at its core, the bold and inclusive brand is living up to its promise.

WHAT OTHER PRODUCTS ARE WORTH TRYING FROM NALA?

It’s not just their bras that are top tier. Their undies, which come in a range of styles from the ‘Classic Gee string’ to bikini or high waist brief, offer the same great fit, style and colour options.

Hooked by the Support Wirefree Bra (which also comes in a maternity version), I’ve got my eyes next on their Strapless Underwire Bra which customers have dubbed “the best strapless bra ever” (Hannah, size 12G).

WHAT’S THE FINAL VERDICT?

It shouldn’t be so revolutionary, but it really is. To have a bra that not only looks good, fits well, feels good and makes YOU feel good, is a complete game-changer. It’s shapewear in its truest form; shaping your mood, body and outfit with comfort and support that let’s you feel like you.

Bravo Nala – and welcome to my underwear drawer.
