When it comes to the world of lingerie, there is one item that everyone loves to hate.
The strapless bra.
Whenever it’s brought up in a group of women, an audible groan can be heard throughout the group. Everyone knows what it feels like to wear a strapless bra that genuinely causes you physical pain. And while yes, that makes taking it off at the end of the day that much sweeter, surely in 2025 we can do better than that.

And sorry to our friends (who most of the time have smaller busts or are a lot more confident), but your suggestion of going braless just isn’t really that helpful. Or, at least, I’m not that brave.
This is where news.com.au checkout comes in. We’ve put in the work to find nine strapless bras that real-life people confirm are actually supportive and stay comfortable all day.
Keep reading for all our top picks, including the Nala Strapless Underwire Bra, which has genuinely changed my life and has now sold out five times in only two years.
BEST STRAPLESS BRAS
Strapless Underwire Bra, $59 at Nala
Why we love it: Comfiest strapless bra I have ever worn
What to consider: No padding
Size range: 8D to 22E | Available colours: Black, white, desert dust | Detachable straps: Yes
Tried and Tested by Philippa Tonkin, Shopping Writer
I’m just going to say it: This is the most comfortable strapless bra I have ever worn. Hand on my heart, nothing has ever come close, and I’ve tried a lot of strapless bras before. I’m so used to being in actual agony at the end of the day after wearing a strapless bra and suddenly I’m painfree. I can’t believe I just accepted that was normal.
Initially, I was hesitant to try this out due to the lack of padding. I always assumed I needed it for extra support. But I was very wrong. It still has hidden underwire and side boning for support, but it never digs in or slides down like other strapless bras I’ve tried.
And I’m not the only one who’s impressed. The bra has gone viral and has now sold out five times in only two years.
“This bra has changed my life! It provides comfort and security which I have never experienced in any other strapless bra. I am now able to wear clothing which I never thought I would be able to!” wrote one five-star review.
Another similarly said, “The best strapless bra this big busted woman has ever experienced.”
Trust me when I say this bra will not let you down.
Low Cut Strapless Padded Bra, $59 at Nala
Why we love it: Extra lift and impact
What to consider: Only goes up to an E cup
Size range: 8C to 20C | Available colours: Black, desert dust | Detachable straps: Yes
Tried and Tested by Philippa Tonkin, Shopping Writer
If you’re looking for a strapless bra that also gives you a little bit extra in the bust, this is the way to go. This one only goes up to an E cup and is more designed for smaller busts wanting some extra lift.
As an E-cup girlie myself, who doesn’t necessarily need the push-up, I still really liked this bra. Thanks to the padding throughout, it looked and felt more like other strapless bras I was used to.
Personally, the fit around the top was slightly off, and I had some gaping, but I think this was definitely a me-issue. But do keep that in mind because I had the same size in both bras, and the one above fit perfectly.
In saying that, it honestly didn’t impact me too much, and if I hadn’t tried Nala’s other strapless bra first, then I would have said this was the most comfortable strapless bra I’d ever tried.

Before trying Nala, this was always my go-to option. I’ve been wearing these strapless bras for years and always thought they were the best option. I do find them incredibly comfortable but I found that after a long day, it would start to dig in around my sides.
But I’m not sure whether I was wearing the wrong size. Coincidentally, news.com.au checkout Social Media Producer worked at Bras N Things during her uni days as a bra fitter and over 10 years later still swears by these strapless bras. According to her, I must’ve had the wrong band size.
Others online also rave about these strapless bras.
“Amazing strapless bra, supper comfortable, ease to dress and holds the breast perfectly,” wrote one five-star review.

This was one of the first strapless bras I wore in high school and I remember loving it. Sadly, Calvin Klein only goes up to a size DD so I no longer can wear any of their bras.
Like others on the list, this Calvin Klein bra is designed to be invisible under your clothes and is crafted from a smooth, lightweight microfibre. It also features push-up pads and a plunging neckline making it great for those after an extra lift.
“I have this in black as well, you can wear it all day; it is comfortable and doesn’t move. Love it! I did have to size up,” wrote one five-star review.

WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN BUYING A STRAPLESS BRA
When choosing strapless bras to include in our list, we evaluated several factors:
Size range: Is the brand and the specific item size inclusive? Does it go up to larger cup and band sizes?
Available colours: Is it only available in black and beige, or are there other colours or a wider skin tone range?
Budget: While spending more does normally mean you get a better quality bra, we made sure to include a variety of prices.
Detachable straps: Does the bra come with detachable straps that also can be used in multiple different ways, including regular and halter.
HOW WE CHOOSE PRODUCTS
To help you find the best strapless bra for your needs and budget, we asked Chloe de Winter, Co-Founder of Nala, for her expert advice and recommendations on what to look for when buying a strapless bra. FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
HOW SHOULD A STRAPLESS BRA FIT?
“A strapless bra should feel firm but comfortable,” says Chloe.
“The fabric should sit smoothly on the bust, with no fabric wrinkles, and the cup should sit snug to the body.”
WHY DOES MY STRAPLESS BRA KEEP SLIPPING DOWN?
According to Chloe, this is a sign that the band is too loose.
“Bras are sized with a band and a cup, for example, a 12B is a size 12 in the band and a B in the cup. If it’s slipping down, perhaps you need to size down to the 10,” she suggests.
“I have to mention that a good quality strapless bra (ahem Nala) in your size, should not fall. There is a time to free the nip, and this is not it.”
HOW SHOULD THE CUPS OF A STRAPLESS BRA FIT?
“The cup should perfectly surround the breasts, holding them in and supporting them,” Chloe says.
“The underwire should sit under the breast tissue. If the cup is too big, you may see loose bits of fabric or the cup will sit away from the skin.”
SHOULD YOU GO DOWN A SIZE IN A STRAPLESS BRA?
Chloe says not necessarily.
“Some people like to size down in the band because they like them to feel super firm. But really, you should just get your true size!”
HOW DO YOU KEEP YOUR BREASTS UP IN A STRAPLESS BRA?
“If you’re wearing a strapless bra that’s designed by bra technicians, then your breasts will stay up,” says Chloe.
“Nala strapless bras have in-built sling supports and underwire that moulds to the body and holds you in.
“I think it’s magic.”
DO STRAPLESS BRAS WORK FOR LARGE BREASTS?
Absolutely, according to Chloe.
She recommends making sure you’re buying a bra that’s been specifically designed and tested on larger busts.
“Look for technical information like underwire and side support slings,” she says.
“Also, make sure the bras come in a range of sizes so you can find your perfect fit. One of the Nala strapless bras comes in 50 sizes for that reason.”
