Laura Byrne wears many hats.
You might know her from way back in 2017 when she won the heart of (now-husband) Matty J on The Bachelor. Or maybe you know her as one half of the popular Life Uncut podcast duo. You might even know her as the founder of jewellery brand Toni May. She’s also just become the new ambassador for Cancer Council.
In any case, there’s no denying the influence the Bondi-based mum-of-two has on Aussie women. We sat down with Laura to chat about all things fashion and beauty, including the one thing she won’t ever do in front of her husband.
WHAT ITEMS ARE IN LAURA BYRNE’S BEAUTY ROUTINE?
“I’m very busy as a mum of two kids, I don’t have a lot of time to do the 10, 12 step routine. So for me it is all about convenience. I wash my face with Cetaphil. I have very sensitive skin, I’m super rashy, so I have to be really careful with what I use.”
Cetaphil Oily Skin Cleanser 500ml, $15.17 (down from $20.99) at Amazon Australia
“I always use sunscreen. And this one – the Cancer Council Hydration Boost – which I know you may not have seen yet because it’s relatively new, is incredible. I absolutely love it. I put that on underneath my makeup and that’s about it in the morning.”
Cancer Council Hydration Boost SPF50+ 50ml, $35.50 at Pharmacy Online
“They’ve also got the daily moisturiser one, which is SPF 50 as well. Neither of those cause piling and they’re not greasy or shiny. So you can put your makeup on straight over the top and it’s pristine.”
“Then I put my makeup on, which is usually MCoBeauty because it’s affordable and 90 per cent of their products are absolutely fantastic. My foundation is called the Miracle Flawless Skin Foundation and it’s only $35 … how could you not?”
MCoBeauty Miracle Flawless Skin Foundation, $35 at MCoBeauty
MCoBeauty Instant Camouflage & Contour Concealer, $20 at MCoBeauty
MCoBeauty XtendLash Mascara, $28 at MCoBeauty
“I’m a half an hour girl, some Mac powder and I’m out the door.”
Mac Studio Fix Powder Plus Foundation, $68 at Mac Cosmetics
WHAT IS LAURA BYRNE’S BEST ‘UNSEXY’ BEAUTY HACK?
“People go to the beautician all the time and get dermablading done, right? But why would you spend money to get your face shaved? Do it at home! You can get the dermablading little razor thing and if I’m going to a nice red carpet event or something and I want my makeup to be staying on there and shiny (but the right amount of shine) I will dermablade my whole face at home … Which you never want to do in front of your husband because they’re just like, ‘Why are you shaving your face?’. They don’t get it. And don’t let the old wives’ tale fool you, your hair will not grow back thicker.”
Women Facial Razor for Hair Removal, $19.88 at Amazon Australia
WHAT HAIR TOOL DOES LAURA BRYNE USE FOR HER EFFORTLESS WAVES?
Laura starts with a Dyson Supersonic and finishes with a GHD straightener “but I use the straightener as a curler.”
Dyson Supersonic, $449 (down from $549) at Dyson
GHD Platinum+ Hair Straightener in black, $311.25 (down from $415) at GHD
WHAT FASHION BRAND IS LAURA BYRNE LOVING?
“This is from Kivari. I love this little set. I have a few things from Kivari, I really like them.”
Kivari Juni Knit Shirt, $199 at Kivari
Kivari Juni Knit Pant, $199 at Kivari
“Cancer Council has amazing sunglasses. Who would’ve thought that Cancer Council has great sunnies? I lose my sunglasses all the time so I am not a brand girly when it comes to sunnies. I need things that are affordable that I can buy lots of.”
Cancer Council Enviro Oval Sunglasses, $49.95 at Cancer Council
WHAT’S ONE ‘MUM HACK’ LAURA BYRNE SWEARS BY?
“So our kids used to be quite big on screen time. I hate to admit it, but I think a lot of parents fall into the default where you put on the screens and it’s just easy and then you can get some work done. But I found that the way that they were after having the screens on was just a horror show. You couldn’t turn it off, you couldn’t transition them into another activity. So about five or six months ago, we went ‘no screen’. So they don’t ever watch iPads, they rarely watch TV and it’s made them so much more creative. Now both of them love drawing, they love colouring. They’re so much more self-motivated to do different things. I know everyone talks about it and I’m not shaming anyone who does screens because we were those people, but holy hell, it has changed our lives since we’ve gotten rid of them.”
Crayola So-Sweet Creativity Bundle, $27.25 at Amazon Australia
