When it comes to cult, viral, top-rated, best-selling, whatever-you-want-to-call-it products, Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre Multi-purpose Moisturiser has got to be right up there.
The holy grail moisturiser sells every four seconds worldwide and has thousands of diehard fans around the globe who swear by the must-have product.
First launched over 70 years ago in 1950, the French pharmacy classic is beloved thanks to its multi-use properties. The six-in-one product can be used as a makeup primer, face cleanser, moisturising mask, aftershave, after-sun and of course as a moisturiser.
And the best part? It’s only $40. I’ve heard about the moisturiser for years but thanks in part to the fancy French name and its cult status, I always assumed it was mega-expensive like other French classics, La Mer and La Prairie.
I’ve now been trialing the beauty favourite for just over three weeks now and I’m sold. I don’t know how I went without it for so long.

WHAT IS EMBRYOLISSE LAIT-CREME CONCENTRE MULTI-PURPOSE MOISTURISER?
“The Lait-Creme Concentre Multi-purpose Moisturiser is the iconic six-in-one cult product from Embryolisse,” Ally Wallace, National Training Manager for Embryolisse and SVR tells news.com.au checkout.
“It can be used as a moisturiser, makeup primer, cleanser, mask, body moisturiser and aftershave care,” she says.
There is also a fragrance-free sensitive version and the newly launched Lait-Creme Retinol-Like which contains a natural, French-derived Retinol-like active ingredient.
Key ingredients include aloe vera to soothe, shea butter, beeswax and soy proteins to nourish and strengthen skin, says Ally.
Benefits include soothing red and irritated skin and providing nourishing hydration. According to Ally, it is a “must-have for any bathroom cabinet and the perfect travel companion.”
MY VERDICT
The first thing I noticed about the moisturiser was just how lightweight it was. Considering the hype around how nourishing and soothing it is, I expected it to be much richer but I was happily surprised.
I first used it as the final step in my night-time skincare routine on nights when I used a retinoid. I have combination, acne-prone skin, and I use a fairly intense retinoid, so I need something super soothing to apply on top and protect my skin barrier. This well and truly did the job. I had recently gone up in strength in my retinoid and had been experiencing very dry lips and a lot of dry skin around my nose. After the very first night, this was almost gone. I couldn’t believe it.
I also tried it out as a makeup primer. In my morning routine, SPF is an absolute must so I couldn’t slot it in there but I did use it for night-time makeup. Once again, I couldn’t fault it. I typically don’t wear super heavy makeup so by the end of the night, I’m used to my makeup essentially being gone. But even after a whole night of dancing (and sweating!) in the mosh pit at the Dua Lipa concert, when I got home my makeup was still visible. Yes, it didn’t look as pristine as it did earlier in the night but I was pretty impressed with how well it lasted.
Using the moisturiser as a makeup remover was the step I was most dubious about. Normally, I’d use an oil cleanser or cleansing balm followed by my regular cleanser and only after the two steps is my face fully 100 per cent makeup free. With the Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre, I applied it straight to my dry, fully made up face and was seriously amazed as I watched the makeup melt off. Even my mascara, which I normally need multiple attempts at, was disappearing with a few swipes. It also had the added benefit of leaving my skin super soft afterwards.
I finally tried it as a hydrating mask. Similar to how I use it as a moisturiser, I simply loaded my skin up with the magic product and let it do its thing. After around 20 minutes, I wiped off the excess, and my skin was seriously bouncy and glowing.
After trying dozens of beauty products over the years, I can confidently say the Embryolisse Lait-Creme Concentre Multi-purpose Moisturiser is well and truly worth the hype. It’s been a serious game-changer for my skin and whenever I use it, I genuinely look forward to checking my skin out in the mirror the next morning. And as any acne girl will know, I can’t believe I’m actually saying that.
I found it calming, super nourishing and most importantly (for me!), it didn’t break me out. It’s 100 per cent worth every cent and I will definitely repurchase when I run out.
HOW SHOULD IT BE APPLIED?
While you can follow what I did above, I also asked Ally for her expertise here.
“For moisturising, primer, aftershave and body application, apply a pea-sized amount to clean skin and gently massage in,” she says.
“For mask application, apply a thicker layer to the skin and leave on for 20 mins or overnight for deep hydration.
“The Lait-Creme Concentre Multi-purpose Moisturiser can also be used as a cleanser where you simply massage the cream into skin over makeup and gently wipe off to remove makeup and residue.”
WHAT IS THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN THE ORIGINAL AND THE SENSITIVE VERSION?
Ally says that the original formulation includes a delicate, hypo-allergenic floral scent. The only difference is that the sensitive version is fragrance-free.
“The sensitive version has been developed with the same much-loved formula but without fragrance, making it suitable for those wanting a fragrance-free option, ultra sensitive skins and even babies,” she says.
